"I interned at a modelling agency when I was 15. I wanted to go to college and study fashion and design, so I figured doing work experience at a modelling agency would expose me to the industry the most; however I just ended up making cups of tea and photocopying! One day, one of the agents asked me if I’d ever consider modelling. I thought she was joking but jumped at the chance as I thought I’d finally get to go on a photoshoot! I booked a job the next day and the rest is history!
My first designer splurge was on a Chloé ‘Silverado’ handbag when I was 17. I had never owned anything so expensive! I’d seen it in all the magazines and on all the celebrities; it was the ‘it’ bag of the moment, so I saved for weeks. I still have that bag I will never part with it!
I have had a few red carpet regrets for sure. Once I discovered my whole dress was torn on the way to the red carpet in Vegas. Luckily we were in a hotel and dove into a men’s suit shop and there was a tailor on hand who kindly sewed me in.
I’m not very patient when I have to get ready for something personal, so I usually do minimal make-up and hair. I always wash and dry my hair, a little mascara, a smudge of eyeliner and a little blush on the cheeks and brow bone. For work and special events I let the experts take over!
I make sure to always remove my make up before I go to bed. I cleanse, tone and moisturize at least twice daily. I use an SPF in the morning and a light moisturizer in the evening before bed. I don’t tend to do well with heavy creams, but everyone is different. It’s important to find out what works for you. Facials are a key part of my beauty regime, as well as drinking a lot of water and getting good sleep. I use a retinol cream a couple times a week by my aesthetician Shani Darden. It’s great for fine lines, scars and acne. Jo Malone is one of my favorite companies for fragrance and candles; Red Roses is my signature scent.
There’s nothing sexier then confidence, so I think its important to find lingerie that makes you feel the best you can feel. Maybe it’s a bra and suspenders, maybe it’s a silky slip and robe. Put a dab of your favourite fragrance on, light a few candles and have fun!
Getting to design my own lingerie collection for the past two years has been by far the most exciting and fulfilling part of my career. I see it continually growing and growing; this is just the beginning! One of my favorite pieces has to be the Rosie for Autograph Amethyst Silk Plunge Bra and Brief set – the signature style from my collection in a beautiful and flattering jewel color. I also particularly love the full-length nightgown; for me, it evokes memories of vintage Hollywood glamor.
I love getting the opportunity to be creative and working with my design team at M&S. It's a really fascinating and rewarding journey that starts as an idea and inspiration and evolves over many stages. I get such a buzz when the products finally come to life. Creating a product for mass market that appeals to all women can be the biggest challenge, but I like a challenge and I love to find out what other women want. I look into my own wardrobe and find pieces that I want to recreate. I have been collecting vintage lingerie from all of my travels for over a decade. I find inspiration in everything. It could be something as small as a print or fabric detail to a vintage slip or palazzo pants at a flea market.
[The best advice I’ve ever gotten is] be kind to everyone you meet; you never know when or where you may see them again. It takes a long time to build a good reputation and one moment to destroy it.”
