Aleali May

Image Consultant, New York.

Okay, so we've waxed poetic on the wonders of Instagram on many an occasion (admittedly, it's usually one of the last things we scroll through before we hit the sheets, save for like, Candy Crush); but we never cease to appreciate the photo-sharing app's ability to connect us to, well, just about everyone and everything. From the impossibly Insta-fit (burpees for everyone!) to the Lifestyles of Instagram-Famous Rich Kids—we like to think we've double-tapped our way across the virtual globe. We also thank the photo-sharing app for introducing us to Aleali May, the super-stylist who effortlessly mixes storied high-fashion brands—hi, Hermès—with streetwear labels and rolls with Kanye and Odd Future's crew on a regular basis. Get how she piqued our interest yet?

While May may (sorry) divide her time between Los Angeles and Chicago, she managed to clear a spot in her schedule for us while in town for New York Fashion Week. At was clear from her suitcase alone that following our virtual sartorial spidey senses had not steered us wrong. From her treasure trove of Diptyque and Cire Trudon candles to her graphic Juun J tee, A Bathing Ape longsleeves and the Collier de Chien wrapped around her wrist; it kind of goes without saying that May's style did not disappoint.

And while it's blatantly obvious that there are seriously big things in the cards career-wise for May (she was hot off of a gig styling Kendrick Lamar); she somehow remains impossibly effortless and cool and down-to-earth—you know, all those qualities that will generally make you wish you could be just a little bit more like her. It became really clear that there's just something about Aleali May when she so succinctly summed up her style in just one sentence: "When it comes to Louboutins, most women purchase heels as their first pair, but I got the sneakers instead."
