Editor’s Letter: Laurel

In which I completely change my life.

Yup, we’re doing this thing. Each and every week, we’ll be kicking things off with a little note from our very own editors; speaking to everything and anything they want, from the Sweetgreen salad they’ve had for lunch nine days running to the existential nitty-gritty. You know, the stuff of life. First up? Our brand-spanking-new Editorial Director, Laurel Pantin (who, NBD, just got EFFING MARRIED). Tweet her your congrats or lurk her wedding pictures on IG here.

By the time you read this, I’ll be married. But, at the moment (as in: as I’m writing this, waiting to board my flight home to get married, drinking a massive glass of white wine, eating a really weird salad) I’m not. I’m still deep in the OMG stage of final wedding planning where I’m second (or, actually, quadruple) guessing my dress(es), florist, photographer...you name it, in the last month I’ve doubted it.

"From the moment that ring went on my finger I started a slow and steady spiral outwards."

Getting married is incredible. Obviously, I’m crazy about the guy, and I can’t wait to have all of my best friends and family—not to mention his best friends and family—all in my hometown for one glorious weekend. Getting married is also incredibly stressful. From the moment that ring went on my finger I started a slow and steady spiral outwards. Picking a venue, a caterer, a color scheme, all of it is one hundred times harder than I ever expected. Trying to pick the perfect thing that says the perfect thing about you, your relationship, and your taste level is mind-boggling. I hate it. Add to that the pressure of getting married in the age of Instagram, where something that was once super private is now super public. Woof. (At this point I’m guessing you’re trying to find pictures on IG—our hashtag is #cheesepretzel)

And while I drove myself crazy over the course of the last year and a half with the details, my spiraling really peaked when it came to the dresses. As I write this, my wedding is in three days, and I’m still not sure what I’m going to wear. But don’t worry—I’ve got options.

I’ll get more into the dress selection (and reselection) process that lead me to purchase (and in some cases return) nine wedding dresses over the past year later this month. Nine. As in: one more than eight. As in: eight more than the one you’re supposed to purchase. YOGMO, I guess, right?

"Nine wedding dresses. As in: one more than eight. As in: eight more than the one you’re supposed to purchase."

Add to this spiral the fact that I’ve just started a brand new (and incredibly fun) job. As The Coveteur’s Editorial Director, I couldn’t be more proud, or more excited to be part of the team, and part of the dream that is The Coveteur. There are insanely exciting things happening at TCHQ, and we’re cooking up some killer features. This month, we’ll tell you everything you ever wanted to know about being a mom from the most stylish and accomplished mothers we know. We got to meet a major actress, and find out alllllllll about how she stays so. damn. gorgeous. And then there’s Wedding Week. Something that’s obviously near and dear to me at the moment. Check back for my entire beauty and fitness diary (I did a lot, but probably not the right way), the story behind all those dresses, aaaaand a million tips, real stories, guides, and...oh yeah, gorgeous photos of the most beautiful wedding gowns we’ve EVER seen. It’s gonna be really good, y’all.
