"It's more interesting to have just a picture of a small detail - then you can dream all the rest around it.
Because when you see the whole thing, what is there to imagine?" -Dries Van Noten
There are a few common threads throughout the photos that we shoot – rare CHANEL bags, collections of killer sky-high pumps, a few furry friends wearing luxe goods and as we have come to notice, Eddie Borgo jewelry. As one of the most influential designers of this generation, we figured it was only fitting to pay tribute to Borgo with a little retrospective. In 2002, Borgo began creating custom pieces for stylists like Tabitha Simmons, Camilla Nickerson and Patti Wilson, and in the summer of 2008, Mr. Borgo was asked to collaborate with Philip Lim on his Spring/Summer 2009 show – the same time he launched his namesake collection. He kicked off his women’s range (which he still deems a study in traditions) with a debut at Barneys New York, Colette in Paris, Liberty of London in the UK and Joyce in Hong Kong, and shortly thereafter, he began creating pieces for arm-party loving dudes as well. Now, his collection is sold at over 90 doors worldwide. And he didn't stop there. In 2010, Borgo was awarded the runner up in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund and the following year, New York’s favorite sweetheart won the CFDA/Swarovski Award for Innovation in Accessory Design. Nice work, mister! He’s managed to score editors and stylists like Kate Lanphear and Giovanna Battaglia as the stars of his black and white campaigns, and with everyone we shoot, when his name comes up, we’ve never seen anything but a gleeful smile. Now, to pay homage to the brimmed hat-wearing designer, we decided to give Mr. Borgo a gallery dedicated to his work – cone bracelets and all. We scoured through the Cov archives to dig up all the Borgo treasures we could find. Consider this retrospective a virtual round of applause to commend Mr. Borgo on his mini works or art. Plus, it’s just another excuse to peep through some Coveteur’s of the past – including Joanna Hillman, Lauren Santo Domingo, Jane Keltner de Valle, and Roopal Patel. Rock on!
