"It's more interesting to have just a picture of a small detail - then you can dream all the rest around it.
Because when you see the whole thing, what is there to imagine?" -Dries Van Noten

My husband is an architect, and when we moved into our apartment my one request was to have a wall for my shoes. He designed it as individual cubbies, so it feels more like a display case for little works of art than a storage unit. The only problem is, I've already outgrown it!Shoes, Various Designers

We found the porcelain whippet at an antique store in Palm Beach. It’s our low-maintenance dog because it requires no walking or feeding. It just sits there and looks pretty! Eddie and his boyfriend Keegan Singh (a very talented stylist!) are longtime friends, so I’ve been lucky to follow Eddie’s career from the launch of his collection a few years ago. I don't wear a lot of jewelry, but I love the sculptural quality of Eddie's work. It's quite architectural and elemental. Other than my wedding ring, this silver cone bracelet is probably the one piece of jewelry I wear the most!Bracelets, Eddie Borgo

Jason originally sent me this skirt to wear to a birthday party of his a couple years ago. At the end of the night, he told me he wanted me to keep it. I was laughing because it was his birthday—he's supposed to be getting gifts, not giving them! He's a very generous person. The skirt was a sample that never went into production, so I'm the one lucky person who has it. I love navy and black together. It’s one of my favorite color combinations.Skirt, Jason Wu

This is from one of Thakoon’s early collections, but I would still wear it today. I love that even though it’s a floor-length dress, there’s a certain cool ease to it. The lightness of the fabric and the side cutouts, together with the abstracted diamond print, give it a completely fresh, modern feel.Dress, Thakoon spring 2006

Alber Elbaz is possibly the most charming man alive—and of course, one of the most talented designers of his generation. I bought this dress on sale at Linda Dresner, a boutique on Park Avenue that unfortunately no longer exists. It was such an elegant store—and I had the most incredible luck at its sales. To me, this is the perfect black cocktail dress. It’s so classic and timeless and chic. It's my go-to piece for parties or weddings. The pearl-and-ribbon necklace was a birthday gift from my husband. I would never have thought to buy it in burgundy, but I love the way it pops against black. The grosgrain and pearl bracelet was also a gift. I wouldn’t wear the necklace and the bracelet together, but I like each on their own. And the mask is a souvenir from the Halloween party Alber hosted in celebration of Lanvin’s New York boutique opening.Dress, Lanvin spring 2005

My husband made these drawings for me after our first trip to Paris together in 2006. They’re based on a series of photographs taken at Villa Savoye, the house built by Le Corbusier in Poissy, France. I love how abstracted the drawing is, with just the subject and the landscape filled in. The tank dress is from Thakoon’s spring 2010 surf-inspired collection. It’s kind of the ultimate Thakoon dress. He’s the master of prints, and here you get three or four folded into one dress! I pretty much lived in this last summer. Through the winter, I layer it over tights and under a blazer.Dress, Thakoon, spring 2010

This walking rose print is one of my favorites of Thakoon’s. It was a collaboration between him and the artist Laurie Simmons. The dress is quite coquettish—also a Thakoon signature. The Versace dress was a gift, and although I don't consider myself to be a Versace girl per say, I love this piece. It's covered in leather 'scales' that are cut to look like snakeskin, and the skirt comes out in an exaggerated bell at the bottom. I think it might even have a metal hoop inside to hold the shape. It's sexy without being too overt. I wore it to the 2009 CFDA awards. It would be a great dress for summer weddings too, if not for the fact that it's white!L to R: dress, Thakoon, spring 2009; Versace, spring 2009

Jason is a close friend, and when I got married last April he offered to make my wedding dress for me. The dress is the most beautiful, special, spectacular thing in the world…but it is not meant for dancing! It’s a big, all-consuming gown. I looked literally everywhere for a party dress I could change into for after the ceremony and dinner, and finally circled back to this one a couple weeks before the wedding. I wanted something that was less precious than my wedding gown, but that, as the bride, wouldn’t fade into the background. And what’s more festive than a dress full of feathers?! It’s funny, what was my second wedding dress, Anna Dello Russo wore to a 10am show during fashion week! I don’t think I could pull it off in the morning (nor would I try), but I’ve already worn it to several events since the wedding. It’s kind of the party dress to end all party dresses.Dress, Jason Wu, spring 2010

I love a striped top. I probably have about a dozen different ones, ranging from classic Saint James to this corset-detailed one. It reminds me of Jean Seberg in Breathless. The heels are another memento from the Chanel sample sale days. I got my sister an identical pair. Like my Balenciaga loafers, they look quite classic from the front, but the heel is actually lucite. This pillow was the seat cushion at one of the Chanel shows in Paris. I wasn’t sure at first whether it was for the taking, but after everyone else started tucking it under their arms, I quickly followed suit! It's been on my chair at home ever since.Shirt, Thakoon, fall 2006; Shoes, Chanel; Pillow, Chanel
