Forget the Peter Pan collars, perfect bangs and dishevelled lob for just one second. Alexa Chung's look typically results in a laundry list of things we envy about her in general, which is, well, everything. But one that virtually always tops the list? Her cat eye. You know what we're talking about: perfectly nonchalant, with an artful, I-didn't-try-too-hard flick up at the end. It's almost as if she woke up after some insane warehouse party, got dressed and managed to quickly draw it on (after all, the only thing she'd managed to throw in her CHANEL Boy bag was a tube of liquid liner).
Want to know how you can duplicate the look at home? Well, don't fret. British beauty brand, Eyeko (who's been working with Chung on her very own line) filled us in on the exact technique. As Nina Leykind, co-founder and creative director of the brand, told us, "It's easy to find the right eyeliner to create the perfect cat eye. Alexa favours a sponge tip and uses our Skinny Liquid Eyeliner to draw on her signature flick. She keeps the line fine by pressing the tip close along the lash line, starting mid-way across the upper lid."
Oh, and for newcomers to the cat eye game? It turns out that a little practice actually does make perfect. Case in point? "Alexa can do hers in a single stroke without a mirror!" We probably can't, so what about us mere mortals? "If you're a novice, it's best to dot along the line then simply join the dots. When it comes to perfect flicks, let the orbital bone be your guide and never extend the line past your lashes." Oh... so that's how she does it?
So next time you find yourself in a black-and-white polka dot collared onesie, a pair of low-top sneakers and a little liquid liner in your bag, well, just ask yourself: What would Alexa Chung do?
