Amanda Ross

Stylist. New York

Stylist Amanda Ross had a very—how do we put this?—‘fashionable exit’ from a very notable magazine. “This dress was a going away present from Alber and the PR team at Lanvin when I left Harper’s to move to L.A.,” she told us referring to her silk, off-white Lanvin dress.
As the former Market Editor at Harper’s Bazaar US, stylist Amanda Ross returned to her roots after a brief time in L.A. Known for both her sophisticated and refined eye, she’s back in the Big Apple and we knew we had to shoot her when we became aware that she was the Style Consultant for one of our all time favorite shows Lipstick Jungle, #RIP.
She continues to work alongside celebrity clients like Mariska Hargitay, Vera Farmiga, Naomi Watts and... wait for it… Steve Martin! Ross was also named the Global Fashion Director to W Hotels (I guess we can thank her for our Veuve-induced hotel lobby shopping sprees) where she was responsible for creating Fashion Next, a program to support emerging designers at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
From her drool worthy Alessandro Dell’Aqua coat to her Naeem Khan dress encrusted with bird features and rhinestones, our style philosophy is pretty in sync with that of Ross, who told us, “I never met a CHANEL bag I didn’t like”. Amen to that!

This was one of the first necklaces I bought from this place I found in the markets. The dress was a going away present from Alber and the PR team at Lanvin when I left Harper's Bazaar to move to L.A. I wore it to my fathers wedding 2 years ago.

Who needs a CHANEL tweed jacket when you can just get the bags! Went to see the Sophie Calle exhibit in London that The White Cube Gallery put on; I went with an art class that my twin sister runs in London with the brilliant Aileen Corkery. I was mesmorized by the premise of this exhibit and had to buy the book.

I started my jewelry collection in 1988 when I moved to NYC and had my first job at Condé Nast. The turquoise necklace is from Aspen, I bought it in 1989 for $300. I took it to my friend and jeweler, Aurora Lopez. I love her work with gold and messaging. She added her signature gold nuggets, a scarab I brought back from Egypt and added a quote from Kahlil Gibran on the back of the pendant. Turquoise with purple and green are my favorite colors so I asked Tito to make me the ring with those colors and he did. He called it 'The Amanda Ring.'

I found this at Couture Lab in London and had to have it. I love everything Carmen does there and thought the body necklace was so chic and unusual. Note to self, use on next shoot!

I got this necklace at House of Lavande in Palm Beach. A secret admirer gave me the dress one birthday almost 10 years ago. I think it is time to take it out again! I love photography and have collected over the years. The collage was designed by Andrew Cinnamon, AC Projects, who also designed my website.

The great thing about these fab classics is that I can wear them everywhere... and I do. I wore the CHANEL dress to a wedding at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc and a black tie event at the Asia Society in N.Y.C. The ermine wrap I wore over a floral Dior dress to a lunch in London during fashion week. And the Pucci bag? I mean who cares that it weighs a ton; it’s the chicest bag ever.

Enough with the platform! The turquoise blue was a rare choice for me because when I buy color at Manolo Blahnik, it’s usually purple. But who couldn’t love this hue of blue?

There is a satin belt that ties under the bust [of the coat]. It is probably an all-time favorite coat of mine. Who needs another evening coat? I got this coat in the summer 2005 when I left Harper's Bazaar to move to L.A. I wore the coat to host [an event for] Kilian Hennessey when he lauched his fragrance line, By Kilian. The dress is made of bird feathers and rhinestones. Naeem said to me, 'You have to take this dress! It’s so tiny. It doesn’t fit anyone else.' I took it to L.A. to wear to a black tie birthday party (that I also wore the Charlotte Olympia clutch to). I ended up in Valentino and my cousin Jane Ross (also a stylist!) wore the dress.

Lyn Devon is a brilliant young designer in NYC that I hired to design wardrobe for W New York Hotel Downtown when I was Global Fashion Director for W hotels. I wore this dress to the opening and haven’t taken it off since. Everyone in Paris during collections wanted to know whose dress it was. Whether day and night, I always mix my Ann Dexter-Jones pearls with African and bohemian jewelry from Pippa Small.

I have two green Valentino bags. No one does green like Valentino. I’m obsessed. I love my jewelry. Represented are jewels with history (my family), from Istanbul markets I used on TV and film and fashion shows, Buenos Aires, Bangko and friends. The Charlotte Olympias go with everything and I adore leopard.

How clever and chic is Charlotte Olympia? I wore the clutch to a 40th birthday in L.A. last year. Cameron Silver put a spoon from the table inside the clutch to see if I would notice walking out with the silverware! I love Charlotte’s creativity and joie de vivre. She takes 'must haves' to a new level!
