Our car arrived promptly at noon, and we were swooped away to the serene setting of Greenwich, Connecticut, which gave us just enough time for a quick power nap. (Jake, naturally, acted as our fine-looking pillow to cuddle up on. Jealous, girls?) When we arrived at the Gatsby-like estate of Tibi founder, Amy Smilovic, we were smitten... to say the least. Little did we know that behind the picturesque shutters and white picket fence lay plenty of Céline and a colorful cornucopia of interior inspiration. Since opening their first boutique in 2006, Smilovic (along with her husband, Frank) have been working extensively on bringing their brand onto the global fashion scene. Like Smilovic's sartorial choices, we're drawn to powerful women with a strong entrepreneurial attitude. It's no wonder the girl behind the popular brand has amassed a massive collection of Pheobe Philo, Miuccia Prada, and Stella McCartney originals. Her appreciation for the bold and beautiful rings true in her décor, too. Who said minimalism couldn't be loud? Her vibrant colored wallpaper, pillows and picture frames gave us flashbacks of Jonathan Adler and Simon Doonan's abode (okay, it's not quite that loud, but you get the point). And don't get this power chick twisted. Behind the girly façade of the Tibi brand is a true Man Repeller- she practically invented the sport. We came, we saw, we conquered Connecticut and we never wanted to leave. After squeezing in a quick hang-out out with her adorable kids, we were forced to part ways with Smilovic and her Tibi empire—but something tells us we'll be back.
Oh these shoes are so twisted; I actually bought these for an event Tibi was involved with last year, hosted by Alexa Chung and Kelly Osbourne. I love designer shoes, and I usually buy things that are such a contrast to my normal style: I don’t like anything that’s one note. I wore these with a Carven skirt and black lace Tibi top.
I live in black, white, blush and grey. I get crazed if I’m not in neutrals when I’m designing. But I always love to have something on that’s a shot of color—it really does lift my mood. I also love a classic touch, like this Hermès cuff, in a non-traditional color like cobalt blue. And these Prada glasses are to die for: you can be so simple, and with these on—well, just amazing, really….
I really like a simple shoe right now and I did a slew for spring that you would want to collect—just because. I love snakeskin and a rustic painted heel; I was so happy with the way these came out.
I love wearing this with all denim—or a white jean and a grey sweatshirt. The insanity of this bag is that it comes apart with snaps, so I treat it like a wallet, a clutch, and a purse all in one. Seriously, I think Phoebe just knows what you need to be functional.
I adore snakeskin and just cried when I found these Miu Miu booties. And then, really, there are no words for the Célines: they’re so 'cool-guy-in-the-back-of-a-bowling-alley' type shoe…
I love all of these pieces. I usually pair the neon green bag with a blush colored jumpsuit from our Spring '11 runway. The polka dot sandals I wear with a midcalf white silk skirt and the denim top. I love, love Stella.
I look at my Prada items as museum pieces. When I shop Prada it’s always with the idea of what will I want to keep forever, and even hand down one day. With two boys, I’m S.O.L. on that, but I’m going to have a very lucky daughter in-law—she better have great taste.
Givenchy’s collection [that season] was beyond. Yes, I paired this bag with a black and white Anne Demeulemeester skirt and a black Tibi tank for a recent event—such a great statement piece really needs to be left on its own.
The leather Tibi dress was a prototype for our spring collection. I love snagging the protos, they’re usually in a different color and then I get something unique that the other girls in the office won’t be wearing. The Thakoon printed dress is from Kirna Zabete—I live in that store. The jewelry is a bunch of faux items from J.Crew that I painted over in neon pink for our photo shoot with Olivia Palermo. When I was styling Olivia, I wanted her in something unidentifiable but that stands out, so I kind of created my own thing here.

These pants got me through a really rough and long winter in 2011. Paired with a black blazer they were the perfect February (and it turned out, March and April) wardrobe uniform.
This bracelet is one of my favorite pieces. I worked it with a great long cotton poplin navy CHANEL evening dress to New Yorkers For Children. I loved the mix of cotton and a formal dress with a super spiky thing on my wrist. However, this cuff did cause me to almost miss a flight one time when I had it in my bag and it was declared an illegal weapon; I had to find a FedEx outlet to ship it separately.
I am so mad for Anita Ko’s work. I’m so crazed right now for something that is utterly luxurious but completely unique; what in the world is special about a diamond stud earring? Shouldn’t all diamond stud earrings be on a panthers head or around a fossilized sharks tooth? I mean, really, it’s just such a more interesting way to treat a classic stone—I think she’s absolute genius.
Wow, I look like a broken record with the repetitiveness of certain brands. I died when I found these at the Céline store in Paris. I love it that they were so retro and modern at the same time. I actually purposely don’t wear them with anything special; I think they’re perfect with jeans and a white shirt.
I lean so much towards female designers; I think they really get that you can be feminine without piles of ruffles. Phoebe just nails this for me: the shoe is slick and bright yet quite clean and sharp at the same time. I would cry if this had a bow on it somewhere. I think Céline is just amazing for looking very minimal, but quite feminine at the same time.
I think half our sales on this shirt were to our employees. It’s literally the perfect shirt; the collar is removable, and I can wear a blue shirt every day of the week. This shirt sums up a lot about Tibi’s style: minimal and clean, relaxed and always feminine, as well as a bit masculine at the same time. I always think about what my uniform is each season and work that in to the collection: last spring it was a button down shirt, this fall it was a pencil skirt and a sweatshirt. It takes forever getting dressed in the morning because I’m always thinking about why I’m putting something on, and how it will relate to what I’ll want to wear months from now. I can’t ever shut it off. I wish I could. I’m quite obsessive about collecting pictures everywhere, I’m constantly having to empty out my cellphone pics—it’s quite ridiculous. Selling the collection around the world—45% of our business is in Europe—is really allowing me to be quite singular in my focus, making sure that the collection really reflects my belief about dressing in a way that is clean, feminine, and always a bit relaxed.

I had no idea my cat was in a photo shoot! Love it. My P.R. director unloaded this cat on me: her fiancé is “allergic”—or so the story goes—but his name is Billy Bob and my family loves him. These Prada kitten heels are insane. I’m actually wearing these as I’m talking to you, with Theyskens' jeans, and a big black Tibi sweater.
I have a few pairs [of Benjamin Eyewear]; I love from them. This skirt was from our holiday collection and I can truly say it’s one of my favorite pieces we’ve ever done. Really, I just don’t think there’s a time when this would not be amazing.

I went through hell to get this sweater: calling Browns in London, ordering it online, and then getting notice a week later that they had oversold; and the whole time, they had it at Kirna Zabete. There’s something so campy about it. I wore it with my black leather skirt and CHANEL flats all fall. The YSLs I bought in Paris a few years ago and I would NEVER toss them. Such a classic, in dark green croc. The plaid McQueen pants were my holiday staple pant with a men’s white shirt, black pumps, and an arm full of jewelry.

I bought this clutch to go with a dress for the Botanical Gardens Winter Wonderland Gala – I had this really clean chic Tibi grey gown – and I wanted something against it that would be just a massive pile of texture, and wintery white, but gemmed up at the same time. I could NOT BELIEVE it when I found this – I felt like I was carrying my cat around all night.

Oh I die for these shoes, really. I just love them with my black R13 jeans and a black turtleneck. I think they’re about as basic as my Converse. Shoes, Céline
I love the quirkiness of Eleven Objects. I’m always throwing it on over a great sweater or a sweatshirt, which is a great way to spice it up. Bracelet, Hermès; Collar, Eleven Objects
