Annie Ladino

Fashion Stylist; Consultant, Astrologer. New York

When you’ve put in the time as Joe Zee’s assistant (Creative Director at ELLE Magazine), and you’ve proven yourself by assisting on over 30 cover shoots, you’re destined for good things. New York-based stylist, editor, and Chief Stylist for “Shop It To Me,” Ladino shifted her focus from advertising to fashion while she was a student at FIT, and since then, she’s built up quite the résumé, repertoire, and reputation for her wicked eye. She’s worked with ladies like Julia Roberts, Becki Newton, Alexis Bledel, and Brooklyn Decker, helped put together her first book ‘ELLEments of Personal Style– 25 Modern Fashion Icons on How to Dress, Shop and Live’ and has managed to continue working with long-time friend and collaborator Gwyneth Paltrow on the Holy Grail of lifestyle branding GOOP! he’s living the East Coast/West Coast dream by splitting her time between NY and LA and when she’s not making sure Hollywood’s leading ladies are dressed to the nines, she focuses on her yoga practice, studies astrology, blogs and watches old French films. She’s a self-professed Alaïa freak, loves a cheap and cheerful bodysuit and lives by our mantra, "When there’s a will, there’s a way,” especially when it comes to squeezing into the perfect shoe. Like us, she’s still mourning the demise of Phi and is quite certain Miuccia made her pink, black and orange striped dress with Ladino’s aesthetic in mind. Her favorite little gem is a printed CHANEL scarf that she picked up at New York consignment shop, Tokio 7. But it’s her approach to building a wardrobe that us Coveteurs are in tune with: "I guess one man’s garbage is another one’s treasure." On that note, Ladino, let us know the next time you’re taking out the "trash."

I’m not a bag girl. I’m a shoe girl. I’ve never heard a guy say to me that’s a sexy purse, but have been hit on many times just because of my shoes. I spend a lot of time in the studio services at Barneys (aka my Messiah). She was a one off. I think Barneys New York hadn’t gotten that color but she was somehow sent from Boston. I’d like to think she’s pretty sexy. Oh, and the fireplace has it’s perks with guys, too.

The Céline might be my most prized possession and think it carries a certain luck. I had to have a piece from Phoebe Philo’s first collection for Céline. No, really; I had to. I treated her to myself after one of my very first ad jobs. I can’t exactly remember what the job was but I do remember wearing it to Gwyneth Paltrow’s home the day I did a GOOP newsletter. The Marc Jacobs have been gifts from my wonderful friend Robert Rich, VP of PR for Retail Stores at Marc Jacobs, who was with me the day I met my first client, Becki Newton. We were both wearing the same Chloé motorcycle boots.

I’m still mourning the end of Phi. And I still look out for it at consignment shops and have an alert for it on eBay. The latina girl in me loves all the sexy body hugging silhouettes. The earmuffs were a fun find at the Union Square shops during the holidays. My roommate got them in blue. And my monkey fur coat, although now illegal, came from the flea market in Chelsea when I was in college. I’d seen it on Kate Moss in i-D magazine. Enough said.

Once upon a time I was an LES hipster: black head to toe, grunge and spikes. Fast forward to my years as an assistant at Elle I learned the definition of “chic” very quickly. It was my boss’s favorite word and now mine today.

I first saw these rings on my girl Tracey Lomrantz when she worked at Elle.com and I worked at Elle. Since then I’ve been collecting these little trophies. On the day of The Covetuer shoot, I realized Erin’s matched my outfit better so we traded while I took the pictures. Thanks, girl!

There is nothing that I love more than the give back brands. Tom’s was one of the first and then other amazing people have followed like Katsu, 141 Eyewear, etc. I’ve featured a FEED bag in editorials and love to gift them as gifts to clients and friends. The Sigerson shoes came after brunch at Joan’s on 3rd - one of my favorites places in L.A. I love to go to with my L.A family - Brett Ramey and Margaret Kleveland.

This H&M body suit was pulled for a job. I’ve obsessed over the Dolce ones and this one seemed to meet all the expectations. At the beginning of each season, I splurge on a good flat to take me around the city and to wear on photo shoots. I just realized that I got the glitter heels my first summer after college when I started assisting Joe Zee, and the flat loafers my last summer at Elle Magazine.

These Zara python shoes are still so on point, and I swear I must have gotten them about seven years ago. I like to think of animal print as my neutral. It goes with everything!

The stripe skirt is from one of my good friends Somsack Sikhounmuong, a women’s wear designer at J. Crew. I got the Marant skirt in Paris while I was on the Eat, Pray, Love Press Tour styling Julia Roberts. I went to the store with my friend Dede Gardner, the producer of the movie, and Matt Hodgsen, who at the time was Ryan Murphy’s assistant. It was actually Matt who picked it out and once I tried it on he said I wasn’t walking out without it. If a straight man loves a mini, you get that mini. In the Ellements of Personal Style, a book I worked on, Margherita Missoni’s must have is a CHANEL tweed skirt and I actually agree.

Being the Alaïa freak that I am, I found these on eBay, bid and won. My friend Rosa Merced waited a week to tell me that I’d actually bought these ballet flats from her in San Francisco. She thought it was funny but also wanted to make money off of them. The scarf is a little treasure I picked up at my favorite consignment shop, Tokio 7. I guess one man’s garbage is another one’s treasure.

I bite my clients style. No, really. Becki Newton had these Balenciaga heels so I had to have them too. I still look out for [Phi] since it fit me so well. I still haven’t used this purse I got at the annual Stella sample sale. If I never do my daughter probably someday will...

I tear out articles and images for inspiration all the time. These tears have an amazing article about Art & Commerce. I was an advertising major in college and find that it has been valuable to my career thus far. The luggage are antiques from Etsy. The picture is a Helmut Newton print from a book that fell apart. The Prada heels I had to have and found them at the Barneys Warehouse sale after I thought they were all sold out in my size (35.5, eek!) People think we get all the best shoes on sale but it’s so not true! The most coveted styles are usually sold out in the smaller sizes because stores do smaller buys. The Iosselliani bracelet came from my best friend Sarah Schussheim, also known as Ty, and now my former bosses assistant. We met right after college when she was a fashion assistant at Jane and I worked on the same floor as a freelance stylist assistant. Ty and I have started a trading game with our clothes and accessories. After all, what are friends for?

Another purchase not so much for wear but more for collection. I took a trip out to Woodburry Commons with my best friend Josh Connor. Although I find those outlets rather expensive there was a small rack at Prada with runway samples all priced at $100. Needless to say this dress came back to Manhattan with me.

Becki Newton once taught me every girl should own a shoe that goes with nothing, and therefore goes with everything. Okay, so I have a bad Alaïa addiction. Hey, it’s not hurting anybody! These were my very first purchase on ShopItToMe.com, a website that I am now the Chief Stylist and spokesperson for. My favorite thing about them (besides Margie Cader) is that I get an email every morning letting me know all the Alaïa sales ('An a-what-a? You know like a totally important designer!')

So I want to be an Olsen. What? Don’t we all!? I just love this leather jacket from The Row. The YSL loafers were $39 on eBay. It was as if the vintage Gods had smiled on me. The red tweed skirt is one of the perks of working at a magazine; You get hand me downs from senior editors. I recently ripped these Isabel Marant jeans riding on my BMX. What? I was trying to save the environment! Luckily for me I had my little brother Louie, who is studying menswear design, patch them up for me.

I went to the Lanvin Halloween party last year and these fans were one of the treats. Anything Alber does is just genius. These images are from the Fashion Next project I worked on for Elle with my very good friend Caitlin Weiskopf for the Elle 25th year Anniversary. Elle worked with the RISD graduating class to showcase their work and I styled the very first show ever shown at Lincoln Center. The photo shoot I styled was displayed at an exhibition in the lobby of Lincoln center. I wouldn’t normally hang up pictures of my work at home, however this project gave me the opportunity to work with women I most admire: Carol Smith, Robbie Myers, Anne Slowey and Alexis Bryan Morgan.
