“I knew I wanted to write about food and fashion… and I knew I wanted to come up with a name that was cute and people would remember,” Emily Schuman, the blogger (and newly deemed author) behind, Cupcakes and Cashmere, told us. After a week of narrowing down a ton of options, Schuman knew she had it. “You probably were like, ‘Okay, what are the two things I like: Spaghetti and stilettos…” “Starbucks and cocaine!” Erin chimed in. We all laughed; Schuman included. But seriously, the names of blogs these days! Okay, so The Coveteur isn’t exactly a ‘normal’ name but we must say the kids are getting pretty creative. Celebrating her blog's eponymous book with a fête at Holt Renfrew in Toronto, we caught up with Schuman at the Four Seasons Hotel. Despite being completely swamped with press, she still managed to squeeze in some time for TC. Schuman greeted us all dolled up (beauty secrets below!) in a pair of ornate, sculpted CHANEL heels gifted from her husband. Schuman is kind of like a next-level, modern-day Martha Stewart; she's practically a human Pinterest board and knows everything there is to know about food, fashion, DIY and beauty. In fact, she scribed her first book amidst maintaining her blog daily and planning her wedding. There’s seriously nothing this girl can’t do! As for her tricks to a flawless face? “In the morning I wash my face with a gentle, exfoliating cleanser, which is important since I have really dry skin. I follow that up with Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair and their eye serum to keep my skin dewy and finish with Kiehl's moisturizer with SPF.” Schuman also swears by: Kerastase deep conditioner (“essential for my color-treated hair that's naturally a not-so-cute mousy brown”), Lush's Flying Fox (“the most amazing smelling jasmine body wash”) and Anastasia Brow Fix (“a wax pencil that keeps eyebrows in place”). After chatting briefly about her Italian honeymoon and her gig guest blogging for Estée Lauder, it was time to go… but not before getting a full on false lash tutorial (keep your eyes peeled for that one!).
My favorite beauty trick is to warm up foundation (in my case, I use tinted moisturizer) in your hands before applying it to your skin. It goes on so much smoother and blends to look a lot more natural than if you just slapped it on cold. The best beauty advice I got was from my mom who encouraged me to not over pluck my eyebrows. Of course as a middle-schooler with a unibrow, I didn't listen, but now looking back, I know she was right.

[Both of these bags are] from a store in Palm Springs that sells mostly costume jewelry, but also carry’s a small selection of vintage bags. I had fallen in love with both of them and was attempting to pick just one, but my husband encouraged me to get both. The prices are a lot better in the desert, so I was essentially getting two-for-one (had I purchased them in L.A.) –but still, you know you have a keeper when your husband suggests taking them both home.

It's not that I don't like flats, but I rarely find a pair that moves me in the same way as a killer heel. My first pair of designer shoes weren't until I was out of college and I bought a pair of Michael Kors espadrille heels that I wore into the ground. Seriously I wouldn't be surprised if they started at 4" and went down to 3". My favorite pair of shoes are my peep toe, jewel-encrusted Miu Mius. They're the prettiest pale pink and the shoes I chose to wear for my wedding. I could never part with my Alaïa cutout booties; they're immensely high and rather impractical, but they can make even the most boring outfits seem fashion forward and daring.
