"It felt like a fairytale. Bill Murray touched the feathers so I'll never wash it,” Brady Cunningham confessed.
Behind virtually every piece in Cunningham's closet is a thoughtful anecdote—from the feathered Lanvin frock she wore to the Darjeeling Unlimited premiere to her cherry red Vuitton bag, gifted after getting her degree. While she may be known to some as the wife of actor and musician Jason Schwartzman, we know Cunningham best as one of the babely brains behind TENOVERSIX, where she's the Melrose boutique's Art Director and Buyer. Cunningham’s responsible for handselecting the season's best from the likes of Maison Kitsune, Vena Cava and Pamela Love. Not a bad day job, right? But she's not only partial to TENOVERSIX's wares; she's also besties with fellow retail masterminds behind Opening Ceremony, and copped to frequenting the Rose Bowl flea market for antique finds. Funnily enough, it was Cunningham's closet that we first saw jewelry by the girls behind Anndra Neen, and thanks to her expert eye, they have now joined Cunningham among the Cov-alum ranks.
While Cunningham's mentality and lifestyle is decidedly West Coast, she still has plenty of love for East Coast designers like Proenza Schouler, Rachel Comey and Alexander Wang. But it was her Rodarte wedding dress that we completely left us speechless. Cunningham told us of the fuchsia and cream confection, "I changed into this for the reception and danced my rear end off in it. It makes me so happy." It's amazing to see how the pieces in Cunningham's closet are so closely connected to the important milestones in her life. She even had a sartorial story to share from when she gave birth, "The two travel bags are Hermès, and were a gift from my husband when I went to the hospital to deliver our baby! Fanciest dopp kits I've ever owned, but I'm now seriously attached."
Okay, so we’re suckers for a good story. But what’s the point in owning something special if there isn’t a cute back-story behind it?
