Brady Cunningham

Art & Design Director of TENOVERSIX. Los Angeles

"It felt like a fairytale. Bill Murray touched the feathers so I'll never wash it,” Brady Cunningham confessed.

Behind virtually every piece in Cunningham's closet is a thoughtful anecdote—from the feathered Lanvin frock she wore to the Darjeeling Unlimited premiere to her cherry red Vuitton bag, gifted after getting her degree. While she may be known to some as the wife of actor and musician Jason Schwartzman, we know Cunningham best as one of the babely brains behind TENOVERSIX, where she's the Melrose boutique's Art Director and Buyer. Cunningham’s responsible for handselecting the season's best from the likes of Maison Kitsune, Vena Cava and Pamela Love. Not a bad day job, right? But she's not only partial to TENOVERSIX's wares; she's also besties with fellow retail masterminds behind Opening Ceremony, and copped to frequenting the Rose Bowl flea market for antique finds. Funnily enough, it was Cunningham's closet that we first saw jewelry by the girls behind Anndra Neen, and thanks to her expert eye, they have now joined Cunningham among the Cov-alum ranks.

While Cunningham's mentality and lifestyle is decidedly West Coast, she still has plenty of love for East Coast designers like Proenza Schouler, Rachel Comey and Alexander Wang. But it was her Rodarte wedding dress that we completely left us speechless. Cunningham told us of the fuchsia and cream confection, "I changed into this for the reception and danced my rear end off in it. It makes me so happy." It's amazing to see how the pieces in Cunningham's closet are so closely connected to the important milestones in her life. She even had a sartorial story to share from when she gave birth, "The two travel bags are Hermès, and were a gift from my husband when I went to the hospital to deliver our baby! Fanciest dopp kits I've ever owned, but I'm now seriously attached."

Okay, so we’re suckers for a good story. But what’s the point in owning something special if there isn’t a cute back-story behind it?

Because I'm drawn to neutral clothing, I usually integrate color with bright accessories. This bag is Mayle and the bracelet is Marion Vidal.

The Louis Vuitton duffle bag was a very generous Christmas gift from my parents when I graduated college. I LOVE red. It's the color I tend to gravitate towards, especially with accessories. The two travel bags are Hermès, and were a gift from my husband when I went to the hospital to deliver our baby! Fanciest dopp kits I've ever owned, but I'm now seriously attached.

These are my husband's first pair of glasses, which he bought at Lens Crafters when he was probably 4 or 5 years old. So sweet. The bust is Mozart from the Disney Hall gift shop.

These two necklaces are Anndra Neen pieces. They're nice because you can put on a very simple dress, and one of those pieces will turn if into a very special outfit!

The vintage Rolex belongs to my husband. I gave it to him for Christmas. We don't usually spoil eachother with such lavish gifts, but because we were having a baby we each got the other one special something that we could pass down to our child. I knew he'd like this one because it almost looks like a sports watch. The ring was his gift to me, and it's my all-time favorite thing in the world. It's a vintage Elsa Peretti for Tiffany kidney bean ring, and it will always remind me of our 'lil babe.

This is simply an awesome Proenza Schouler bag. I'll never get sick of it, no matter how popular it becomes! I think they can do no wrong.

I bought this Opening Ceremony skirt shortly before finding out I was pregnant, so I wore it every chance I had before my belly got too big!

The necklace is Anndra Neen which is designed by Phoebe and Annette Stevens. It is all handmade in Mexico, and I feel like I'm wearing a piece of art. The cuff is vintage from a collection Nomade Exquis. I try to wear it with everything! The large poster is from the film Zazie Dans le Metro, and has been the centerpiece of every place I've lived with my husband because it makes us both so happy.

Well, I feel like I'm bragging, but this was a wedding gift from Kate and Laura Mulleavy who designed my wedding dress. I changed into this for the reception and danced my rear end off in it. It makes me so happy.

These are my Boy blazers. I'm a huge fan of blazers in general, but Scott Sternberg is the master when it comes to fit. The jeans are A.P.C., and I'm afraid to wash them because the color is so nice. However, they just keep getting bigger and bigger!

I wore this Lanvin dress to the premiere of The Darjeeling Limited at the Venice Film Festival. It felt like a fairytale. Bill Murray touched the feathers so I'll never wash it. The pink shoes are Opening Ceremony and the bracelet in the trees is made of vintage turquoise that I bought at the Rose Bowl Flea Market.

This is a Brooks Brothers hat, and the pointe shoes were mine. I wish I could still fit into them, although I'd probably break my neck.

This Hermès bag is on permanent loan from my mom, she just doesn't know it. I'm a wimp when it comes to wearing high heels which is why I love these Opening Ceremony shoes because they're actually comfortable... plus, they were a gift from my husband. Thanks, Honey!

This bag was a given to my mom for her 40th birthday, which was in 1990. She didn't hold on to many things, so I'm happy that this made it into the new millennium.

These shoes are vintage Saks Fifth Avenue from Resurrection in L.A. The piano is a Wurlitzer Butterfly electric piano that my husband bought after we found out we were pregnant because it sounds so sweet. The mini red piano was a gift for our daughter from our friend Humberto, and I think it has magical calming powers.

I love Opening Ceremony. We carry many of their accessories at TENOVERSIX, even though we are fairly close to their L.A. store. Carol Lim and Humberto Leon are very good friends of mine, and I'm a huge fan of their work, especially this pair of pants. The boots are Rachel Comey, and I get tons of compliments whenever I wear them.
