Cameron Silver

Owner, Decades; Co-Owner, Decades Two.1 Los Angeles

Cameron Silver, owner of Decades and co-owner of Decades Two.1 in Los Angeles has had one hell of a profound impact on the LA fashion scene. So much so, that it can be defined by two words: dress up!
Silver, a Los Angeles born and Beverly Hills-raised entrepreneur began his career in the arts - performing Weimar cabaret songs by Kurt Weill and Friedrich Hollaender around the United States upon graduating college. While doing so, he began his hunt for men's vintage clothing...which subsequently ended up changing his career trajectory. And thank god it did. While digging and hunting for the ultimate in men's treasures throughout history, he found too many women's garments that he had to get his hands on. He ended up scooping them up, and in 1997, he opened Decades, his Melrose Avenue vintage salon. (Side Note: If you haven’t been….run….don’t walk…and get there as fast as you can. It’s absolutely mind blowing).
He's been responsible for bringing the world of vintage clothing to the forefront of the style choices of Hollywood's modern starlets, and in doing so, was named one of Time Magazine's '25 Most Influential Names and Faces in Fashion'. And as everyone has taken notice of Silver's natural knack for all things glamour, he's been tapped to consult on re-imagining a brand's identity to navigating its global launch, as evident in his work with Pringle, Boucheron, and Costume National. And now, with under a decade of Decades under his belt, his influence on historical glamour is widespread, and even the house of Hermès has taken notice - creating the decadent 'Cameron' bag in his honor. Not bad for someone who started off belting out show tunes.

I have a few of Karl Lagerfeld’s men’s pieces for CHANEL. Coco Chanel famously was inspired by menswear and fabrics, so CHANEL pour Homme is not so out of the question!

The vest was made for an Italian Count by Lesage. The lace actually goes up the back so it requires a partner in crime to get it on.

I have always worn McQueen and his men’s designs pushed the boundaries of the masculine wardrobe, yet always included wearable pieces. I am not afraid of patterns and prints and these three pieces from one of his last collections are an example of classic silhouettes in an unexpected explosion of romantic print.

I had always coveted the Katherine Hamnett jacket from the late 1980s and a few years ago a woman brought me the jacket and explained it had belonged to George Michael, I had to own it. The hat is by Stephen Jones and I bought it at Dover Street Market in London. I am truly not very Rock ‘N Roll so this is my fantasy wardrobe.

I bought the men’s Valentino Haute Couture jacket at an auction – it is from the late 1960s. The bow tie is Alexis Mabille and the shoes are by Alexander Mcqueen – they are a little Rockabilly for me.

I used to consult with Costume National and this is one of my favorite pieces: a zip up cardigan with python panels. The feather scarf is from Burberry and I begged the head of PR for it. I must have a feather fetish? The background includes a mix of great vintage Hermès and Morabito bags from Decades.

I am a true Hermès addict and have collected Hermès since I was around 18. Decades has always sold vintage and pre-loved Hermès. It is an important part of our business and we have sold everything from Birkins to bags from 1915! They are all amazing. I am partial to crocodile, as you can see.
