NYFW Daily Debrief: Carolina Herrera

Consider this the ultimate ponytail.

That's right: like peanut butter and jelly or Frank and Claire Underwood, we're at it again. This season, we've hooked up with Tresemme (the official hair sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week—you fancy, huh), the inimitable, iconic Orlando Pita and Something Navy's Arielle Nachmani to bring you behind-the-scenes breakdowns of each show's hair looks. Get your blowdryers ready, set... we're off!

Guys, you know you’re onto something when each woman walks out of your show uttering the same line, “I want every. single. piece.” Woman being the key word here, because at this point we all know that Herrera's clothes are not for girls. And while NYFW's standard seems to be swaying towards the genderless, sometimes super femme-y details, like glittery tasseled embellishments worthy of an Instagram slo-mo video and floor-length gowns that melt into the catwalk are just the antidote we need.

“Our collection this season was based on the light patterns of the sun on water that lead to these beautiful wave shapes and blurred prints,” says Herrera. She worked in a narrowly defined color palette for her Fall 2015 collection; take for example the opening number on Karlie Kloss (so. much. yes.) in silvery blues, and the closing look, a navy gown worn by catwalk crooner Jourdan Dunn; in between, waves of red broke through the 50 shades of blue. And some major props are in order for those fur-trimmed scarves.

We’d be remiss not to mention the hair. In keeping with the watery theme, models looked as if they just walked out of the shower with super sleek ponytails re-imagined by master hair guru Orlando Pita, who bound them with silver leather.

“Our wrapped version at Carolina Herrera is an easy update to bring a little more drama to an evening look. The tight shape highlights the nape of your neck in a way that is subtly sexy,” he explained. Our post-Soul Cycle hair style of choice has never looked so sophisticated.
