Charlotte Hall

Owner of LN-CC. London

There’s no surprise that Charlotte Hall, one of the founders behind luxury emporium LN-CC (Late Night Chameleon Café) in London’s industrial Shoreditch area is one of the U.K.’s leading ladies when it comes to boundary-pushing style. While prim, proper and ladylike (when she wants to be), this clothing aficionado can rock a pair of Ann Demuelemeester boots without fear and look effortlessly cool while doing it. Her quiet and sophisticated accent doesn’t hurt, either.
We shot the subdued blonde with impeccable taste at designer J.W. Anderson’s flat, in conjunction with Aldo’s collaborative project, titled 'Aldo Rise'. As long-time friends, the duo considers each other not only creative amigos, but Jonathan (J.W.’s real name) deems Charlotte his muse, infusing his collections with elements from her personal style. Hall graciously lent her helping hand when one of us (won’t say who!) left our favourite Warby Parker glasses in the taxi en route to her shoot. Let’s just say Hall has a way of tracking down taxi drivers!
When all was said and done, Hall gave us an after-hours tour of LN-CC, a kaleidoscopic space designed by the extraordinary Gary Card. We chatted with Hall about Marky Mark, Jonathan's (how do we put this politely?) interesting decor and his master persuasive design skills. “Jonathan has always had a talent for creating conceptual footwear that has become quite iconic. It’s genius, really," Hall told us. And while Hall says she’s a girl who lives in flats (her "well loved" Converse are proof), there’s only one guy who can transform her ways. It’s no surprise that the only man capable of making this happen is J.W. After all, that’s what friends are for.

I usually wear flats, and it takes something special to get me into a stiletto heel. Jonny and Ben have been trying to turn me for a while! It took this shoe to do it. The 'Weatherbee' is the perfect shape and height. So chic.

I love a J.W. Anderson pajama suit! This candy strip is from the S/S ‘12 collection. All I need now is the candy stripe 'Weatherbees' to match.

These are a J.W. Anderson special creation: Nike football boots customized for Ben Bruno for a Man About Town shoot. Interview is one of my favourite magazines. This Bruce Weber issue featuring Mark Wahlberg (aka ‘Marky Mark’) is part of Jonathan’s extensive archive.

Jonathan has always had a talent for creating conceptual footwear that has become quite iconic. It’s genius, really. This style is based on a traditional Swedish military boot. I remember when these were shown on the runway people were going crazy for them. I think John (Skelton) was the only buyer to pick them up and they sold out the week they went live.

I bought these Givenchy sandals from LN-CC and I’ve been wearing them all summer. The helmet and paper boat hat I only wear on very special occasions.

A willow pattern platter of hand-carved penises is the perfect centerpiece for Jonathan’s lounge! In theory it wouldn’t work; in reality it’s aesthetically perfect. He collected these particular ones on a recent trip to Canada to meet with Aldo about the J.W. Anderson x Aldo Rise collaboration.

These are shoes from Jonny’s S/S ‘12 menswear shoe in collaboration with Aldo. I’ve always worn a lot of menswear and it was through one of his first menswear collections that I discovered the wonders of J.W. Anderson. I think it was his S/S ‘10 show as part of MAN at London Fashion Week, and I’ve been devoted ever since. One of my favourite pieces of clothing ever is a mens’ cashmere Donkey jacket from his punk influenced A/W ‘10 menswear collection, ‘The Saint + The Assassin’.

This is a shot from “Repton Boxing Club”, a short documentary by Alasdair McLellan that was sponsored by British Heritage underwear brand Sunspel, where Jonathan is creative director. Sunspel is also a favourite of mine. Especially their tracksuits! I have one in every colour. I love this dress from the A/W ‘12 pre-fall collection. Proof that I usually wear flats: my Converse are very ‘well loved’.

These are platform loafers from the J.W. Anderson A/W 12 collection. These are actually samples from the runway show that I seem to have acquired. Again, they’re an incredible piece of design.
