Senior Fashion Editor, Lucky Magazine. New York
There are few things that can convince us to cross the bridge to Brooklyn: a mission for skinny rings and Jacquie Aiche at Catbird, Jenné Lombardo, Stacy London, Mary Alice Stephenson and Eleanor (“Elle”) Strauss. Strauss graciously welcomed us into her home, introducing us to her photographer husband, James Dimmock, and adorable daughter, Honor. The British-born, N.Y.C.-based editor and stylist may have planted her roots in BK, but she hasn’t forgotten her home across the pond. While the sweet smell of Santal 26 filled her home (it’s a unanimous Cov-favorite across the board), it was the scent of Honor’s dinner that really made us hungry. Throughout our shoot, Honor was all giddy and running laps around their apartment, squealing “Mummy! Mummy! Mummy!” We couldn’t help but watch a little Peppa Pig (a British animated kids' show) with her before diving head first into Strauss’s walk-in. We girl-talked with Strauss about everything from memorable cover shoots (“It was with a certain infamous diva who shall remain nameless,” she said. “She arrived three hours late and wouldn’t get out of the limo until her hair stylist bribed her with free hair extensions!”) and even the shoot where she met her husband! “I began my career in fashion over ten years ago as fashion assistant at The Face,” Strauss told us. “I actually owe a lot to The Face since I met my husband on a shoot for the magazine. He caught me burning a shirt with the iron, and he’s never let me near one since!” The topic of conversation casually turned to designer purchases: namely, Strauss’s first pair of CHANEL T-strap heels she bought as an intern. With only about £5 left in her bank account, Strauss admits it was totally worth eating “beans on toast for a month” after. “I still wear them to this day!” she confessed. The things we do for fashion, right?

I bought a pair of black T-strap heels at the CHANEL sample sale in London. I was an intern at the time and had about £5 in the bank. But the purchase was worth eating beans on toast for a month. I still wear them to this day!

The most memorable cover shoot would be with a certain infamous diva who shall remain nameless. She arrived three hours late and wouldn’t get out of the limo until her hair stylist bribed her with free hair extensions!

I began my career in fashion over ten years ago as fashion assistant at The Face, before taking on the role of fashion editor at Company in the U.K. I actually owe a lot to The Face since I met my husband (photographer James Dimmock) on a shoot for the magazine. He caught me burning a shirt with the iron, and he’s never let me near one since!

I have an awfully sweet tooth, so British candy is what I miss most. Any time a friend is going back to the U.K. I send them with an order. You can’t beat Cadbury!

I am a huge fan of London designers—particularly Erdem and Stella McCartney. It was so wonderful how Stella designed Team GB’s uniform for the Olympics. She does us Brits proud!

I am definitely passing on all of my shoes and bags on to my daughter, Honor, if she wants them! It’s also my total justification for any big purchases.

I love makeup! Red lipstick and liquid eyeliner are my top picks. It doesn’t have to be expensive. Almay does a great one! I love this Dior cream blush; sadly its been discontinued, but it has the perfect texture and stays in place all day.

My skin routine is pretty dull: I always wash my makeup off at night, even if it’s 4 A.M. I make sure I wear sunscreen during the day, since I’m often shooting outside. I always use Lancôme (cleanser, toner, and moisturiser), which is something I picked up from my mum (and she’s looking pretty good). I also love Dermalogica. It always feels so clean
