Filipa Fino

Creative Director, Filipa Fino Inc. New York

Filipa Fino welcomed us into her home with a simple mentality: "Mi casa es su casa" a.k.a. "My house is your house." It was a total free for all for us to rummage through the Vogue veteran's closet, which was essentially a museum of Manolos. After working with Fino on our collab with Vogue for "Summer Essentials," we were eager to collaborate again. And, just for good measure, we collaborated with her once more for a very special project with Vogue Japan (coming soon!) Fino's career dates back to ’95 when overalls ruled the runways—or, at least the majority of our closets. Shortly after entering the biz at Ralph Lauren, Fino joined the publishing world and jumped mastheads from Harper’s Bazaar to Allure until Anna Wintour came knocking at her door. Jumping in as Vogue’s Senior Accessories Editor and working closely with Grace, Tonne, Camilla, Tabitha… you get the idea. Fino oversaw all the accessories content for the mag (both print and online), editing the Wear It Now pages. You may recognize her famed-face from her cameo in R.J. Cutler’s The September Issue. But after 11 years at the top of her game, Fino upped the ante by starting her own fashionable firm, Filipa Fino Inc. We're eagerly awaiting for the Spring/Summer issue of "FinoFile" - her new shop-able magazine - to arrive in our inbox. Her closet is a living memoir of her career, which is filled with coveted treasures from every season past. But the best part of getting inside Fino's home was hanging with her oh-so-adorable kids. We styled the girls, played with their Barbie dream house and turned the closet shoot into a full on spa day by beautifying both of them. (We'll babysit for you and Stratis anyday!) And we firmly believe Fino may hold the record for the rarest CHANEL collection—like Fino said, “If only those CHANEL sample sales still existed!”

I have always been a huge fan of Equipment, ever since they had a store near my home in the 1990's. When they resurfaced, I became obsessed. I think I wear one of their silk shirts at least once a week. I pair them with everything: skirts, jeans, pants, even denim shorts. The background is my daughter's art.

My coffee table gets a lift thanks to The Coveteur! Believe it or not, the bag ?ts a ton and the color is a neutral. The leopard shoes are another staple. This is my second pair of the same shoe. I think the original pair is six-years-old. The pendant was a gift from Lauren Dupont when she had a jewelry line. I love it!

Patterned bags are always fun and can add a little life to an otherwise not exciting look. For some reason, I have been wearing the yellow ones a lot lately. I love to recycle from my closet.

I seldom wear costume jewelry but I love looking at it. Something playful about it always puts a smile on my face. When Yiouri Augousti made my dresser, I asked him to make me two drawers as jewelry compartments. They are perfect to keep everything organized and accessible. I’m a Virgo, so it gives me great gratification to have order. The bracelets live with bracelets, the necklaces with necklaces, the rings with rings and so on.

A shoe collection sort of comes with the territory of my profession. After all, I’ve been in the business since 1995. That is a lot of fashion seasons with a lot of variations. What can I say, I love shoes. I always have. When I was young, I would go to Spain on shoe shopping trips. My mother would constantly remind me that I only have two feet. My sister cared about dolls; I cared about shoes - all kinds, all colors. I select shoes according to my mood, my state of mind or the day’s agenda. Meeting means assertive Manolo; date with husband means seductive Givenchy.

These are some of my favorites. I love a pointy stiletto and was so happy when the trend returned. I also love adding pops of bright colors like this Dior webbed sandal to neutral looks. It makes the shoe speak volumes. Happy colors, happy feet.

I must confess, and my husband can attest that I am more of a Fred Leighton kind of girl. There are some other pieces of jewelry that I do cherish like my Tiffany & Co. Elsa Peretti bone cuff and my Patricia von Musulin lucite bangles. They are timeless. I also love finding jewelry in markets and bazaars, especially in Turkey, Greece, Mexico and Morocco. I have found incredible pieces.

This picture is a mix of old and new. The jacket is Gucci from the Tom Ford days, which to this day is my personal favorite time in fashion. From wedding to blue jeans, it goes with everything, every season. The CHANEL bags are from when CHANEL used to have big sample sales. Long, long ago... The lace Charlotte Olympia’s are from Peter Som’s runway show. He's so sweet and gifted them to me after the presentation. The lace Louboutins have to be one of the prettiest pairs of shoes that I own.

I love velvet. It makes me feel chic and sophisticated. The bag was my mother's and I am surprised it is still around.I wore the silver shoes to the Met Ball one year. They are the perfect shoe for when things tend to look a bit boring. The Louis Vuitton shoes were a fortune, but are a classic. So pretty. I feel that I will wear them forever!

I fell in love with these pants during an appointment at the Miu Miu boutique. I remember cornering the sales lady and slipping her my business card to put them on hold. The shoes - I love the mix of the classic loafer with the exaggerated heel. They look great with pants. The bag was a sweet, sweet gift from Marc Jacobs one season.

This dress was a trade. My friend, Gretchen Gunlocke used to work at CHANEL. She got pregnant with twins and did not fit into this dress that she had ordered. I had just given birth to my second daughter and was sick of my maternity wear, although it was all designer. So we swapped! I sent her my Yves Saint Laurent sheaths and got this dress. The neon bag is another gem from the infamous CHANEL sample sale. It was the 1990’s.
