“My favorite memories from modeling days? Wow…so many,” model-turned-actor Jaime King began. “Alexander McQueen taught me how to properly drink tea, with milk, sugar and biscuits. We would sit and talk about everything. We were both babies; I was in every show of his since his very first, including Givenchy. I have fond memories of my first show ever: Tom Ford for Gucci. Naomi in front of me and Kate Moss behind; I was dying! And doing all of Karl Lagerfeld's shows (at the time he was doing Chloé), including Karl Lagerfeld and CHANEL, too, all in about a week! And Galliano was pure theatre! His shows made me realize just how much I loved acting.”
Fast forward to now and the Omaha, Nebraska (we know, we didn’t believe it either!) native turned her theatrical training from Galliano into a full-on career. You can now catch her in every week in Hart of Dixie (alongside another Cov-alum Rachel Bilson) and catch us glued to our TVs every Tuesday, double-fisting wine and take-out. And if you’re a Lana Del Ray fan like us, you would have spied King in LDR’s “Summertime Sadness” vid, shot by King’s oh-so-talented husband, Kyle Newman.
Like we said, we’ve been keeping tabs on King’s style evolution from her grungy look in the 90s, (back when she dated Kid Rock) to her Calvin Klein wedding dress designed by Mr. Francisco Costa himself. While King describes her style as “high-fashion-meets-street” mixing Lanvin with a trench coat from Goodwill (we kid you not!), it’s her daring attitude and thoughtfulness towards like-minded designers that we truly admire. And while she may have ditched that whole spaghetti strap tanks, grungy beach waves and smudged liner thing of the 90s in favor of “classic, timeless pieces,” it’s the items she can “play with over and over again” that have stayed.
We've been gunning for the Queen King of Dixie for a while but due to her crazy shooting schedule and home reno (she orchestrated the whole thing, F.Y.I.), things got a little complicated. But when it finally happened, well, let’s just say magic happened. See for yourself!
