Jake Davis

Stylish Filmmaker.  New York

Meet: Jake Davis. The NYC born and bred wiz kid who truly represents the clients he works for. Davis is known for his signature “Test Shots” series, which features ultra-cool individuals in slow-mo looking, well, really cool. We can’t count the number of hours we’ve sat glued to our computers watching his minute-long captivating shorts, daydreaming about the day that Davis asks to shoot us. (Just putting it out there, JD.) Prior to graduating from the Tisch School of the Arts, Davis was approached by an ad agency to direct a short film for Nike. Let’s just say it was all uphill after that. The mini reel forged a long-lasting relationship that has since spawned several more collaborations with the brand. Post-school, Davis got on board to document the Anger Management Tour, which featured everyone from Eminem to Ludacris. The visionary filmmaker continues to work with some of the biggest names in music, shooting videos for Toronto’s own, Drake (Davis shot the video for “Successful,” featuring Trey Songz), My Chemical Romance, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Nelly, T.I., Snoop Dogg and more. His ongoing work with cult skate brand, Supreme has led to major gigs filming musical legends like Lou Reed (Terry Richardson shot the ad campaign), Malcolm McLaren and everyone’s favorite Muppet, Kermit the Frog. His elevator shaft-turned-walk in closet was by far one the most organized we’ve seen in a long time. Like Davis says, it’s like walking into a shop; a mini retail pop-up with carefully curated, archived goods. And, if you see something you like… it’s yours. The Andre Agassi-addict showed us his serious sneaker collection, custom Deer Dana birthday tee, gifted each of us with a lady lapel and sent us on our merry way. Ideal day.

The infamous Deer Dana made this Jake Davis birthday t-shirt. She's so talented; I love my friends!

Big closet space is kind of rare in the city. My walk-in closet used to be the building's elevator shaft. I guess I got lucky. Most people call it my store. If you visit and want something, it's yours.

As I've gotten older, I only want to wear orthopedic, technical running sneakers. These were a gift from my client New Balance. They are designed by Frank the Butcher for Concepts and are inspired by JFK. The "Kennedy" is one of my favorite sneakers of all time.

I keep a memento from all of my videos that I shoot. My friend Vanessa Carlton gave me that poncho from our video for "Carousel." Delvaux gave me this incredible bag from a campaign I directed for them. And the Borsalino hats just look kinda cool on the wall. I like wearing them on set when I shoot, too.
