Jane & Judy Aldridge

Bloggers, Seaofshoes.com & Atlantishome.com. Dallas

You know that saying, “Like mother, like daughter” that your parents’ friends used to (still?) always say to you? That phrase could not be more applicable to the Aldridge duo, Jane (yes, of Sea of Shoes) and her mom, Judy. It’s no secret the two share a mutual love for all things fashion and design: “We are obsessed with the 70s, Art Deco, and brass,” Jane told us.

And aside from furniture shopping together at Give + Take, Scout Design, Antiques Moderne in Dallas’ design district, there’s no better perks than shopping in your mom’s—or in some cases, your daughter’s—closet. (Full disclosure, moms of the world: This does not grant you access to your daughter’s crop tops; there’s an age-appropriate dress code in effect at all times.)

“Jane is always finding off-beat crazy websites where we find really unusual clothing, and maybe sometimes she'll have a cute look on and I'll try to copy it,” Judy confessed.

“I get so much of my style from my mom,” said Jane. “We are so alike in the fact that we love crazy one-of-a-kind vintage pieces that are totally impractical, but in reality we mostly wear the same variation of jeans and tees every day.”

But this particular day was a special occasion: the ladies put their jeans and tees on the back burner and played dress-up with us and THEOUTNET.COM in Christopher Kane, Junya Watanabe and Pierre Hardy for Jane, and Balmain and Chloé for mom, naturally. Judy’s home played the perfect backdrop for the luxe fabrics and textiles: brass-finished bookshelves, crushed velvet couches and chairs, whimsical objects and more. After feasting on cupcakes—Jane’s younger sister, Carol, baked us three kinds!—and a next level crackers and cheese plate, we chatted with the ladies about the lay of land in Texas. If you’re going to do Texas the right way, you better hope you have these locals showing you around city. We got the scoop on where to dine (this authentic Tex Mex dive called Mia’s) and even had Jane take us to Mansion on Turtle Creek to wine. Now that is what we like to call first class service!
