Jodie Snyder

Co-Founder; President, DANNIJO.  New York

We told you it was double trouble, and we weren’t lying. Yesterday we showed off Danielle Snyder’s sick pad, complete with Loefler Randall kicks on Keith Haring books and African masks adorned with blingin’ gems. Today, we flip the coin and bring you into the home of Danielle’s sister, Jodie Snyder, co-founder of DANNIJO (get it – she’s the Jo). She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida (which also happens to be the stomping ground of another winner Mr. Timo Weiland), began tinkering with jewelry creation as a young’n, went to college at UF where she majored in PR and Business, packed up, and moved to NYC. She ran private sales at Sam Edelman shoes, worked in design where she made ties witheveryone from Donna Karan to Calvin Klein, launched her line with her sister in 2008 and boom, the rest is history.
Since their collection dropped, they’re now sold everywhere from Lane Crawford to Holt Renfrew and have been recognized as Inc Magazine's 30 Under 30 List (2009) as well as nominated for Breakthrough Designer for WGSN Awards in 2011. Work it out! Since it’s inception, their handmade creations have been seen inside the pages of fashion bibles like Harper's Bazaar, ELLE, and Marie Claire. But dudes, don’t think these female powerhouses don’t have your accessorization needs at heart, as they’ve handpicked a selection of vintage cufflinks to make your wrists dance and shine with excitement…in the most masculine way possible.
Her apartment has an Americana Western vibe and she buys furniture like she buys accessories – always an emotional purchase and never enough space. She’s a devoted Prada shoe lover, and has even taken her girlcrush one step further. “Miuccia Prada is a genius! I always want to wear what she designs,” proclaims Ms. Jo. “Did you know she studied to be a mime before becoming a designer?” Bring on the white paint, spandex, and chapeaus – we’re signing up for Mime 101 stat. Oh, and before we forget, while we may be obsessed with MR.DANNIJO (their collaboration with The Man Repeller), we’re even more stoked to learn about their second collaboration launching in February. We can’t wait to repel dudes around the world with chunky collars and brass-plated mustaches. February can’t come soon enough. But today is all about Jo. Peek inside and get lost for an hour…or 4.

I bought the blue clutch at the Manhattan vintage show in NY. I always find amazing pieces there and look forward to it every year. It is one of my favorite clutches and blue is my favorite color. I love wearing the Prada bag with printed dresses and tops. I loved it the first time I saw it while we were doing a PA at Holt Renfrew in Toronto. I was still thinking about it when we got back to NY, so I ordered it from Neiman Marcus.

L to R. Clutches: Prada, Vintage Yves Saint Laurent

I bought these shoes as a gift to myself about seven years ago. Jewels for your feet! Turqoise is such a classic, I collect it. We just added this necklace to the website. This is our first sample. We ended up taking off a few turquoise pieces because it was a bit too heavy. It's inspired by Native American jewelry. I am also obsessed with the Kennedys. Jackie O. epitomizes grace.

I am a denim girl and love denim on everything—especially shoes! These are my favorite summer shoes. Prada and Miu Miu shoes are my favorite because not only do they look amazing but for the most part, they're comfortable. I always want to wear what Miuccia designs—she's a genuis! Did you know she studied to be a mime before becoming a designer? Danielle and I have a similar design philosophy as Miuccia; we design what we want to wear and always try to use new materials each season.

I have been wearing this Palmer necklace with everything lately. The oxidized brass and iridescent Swarovski crystal disc spice up anything and everything. I collect colored fur. This fur and my blue fur coat are my favorites—they're both vintage. I love this horse hook. My boyfriend has been riding since he was a kid. We have equestrian touches all around our apartment.

Every girl needs pearls. I am just not into traditional pearls. I bought the pearl necklace on the bodice at a vintage store in Paris. It is major! The gunmetal and pearl necklace is old-school from our first season. I had big plans for that vintage fur/pearl collar! I was going to sew it on a jacket when I bought it but never got around to it.

Perfect recipe for a proper DANNIJO arm party: color, metal, cuffs, bangles. I love this necklace's asymmetry and its polished surfer-girl vibe. This photo of Ernest Hemingway is one of my favorites.

Can you tell that Americana is a theme? I like my shoes to be as unique as my jewelry, and not too simple. Larry Vrba is so talented and one of my favorite jewelry designers.

This is my favorite painting; the colors are beautiful. My friend Reet is an amazing artist and painted it for me as a gift. I am obsessed with this dress. I just wore it to a wedding in France. Timo Weiland is a dear friend. We grew up together in Jacksonville, Florida and I love his collection. Alan and him are so talented. How incredible is this watercolor? I' m like a kid in a candy store and want everything whenever I go over to their show room. My boyfriend Greg gave me these Alexander McQueen shoes. Every girl needs red shoes!

This dress is fun and a bit girly. I do feel like a kid in it though! Leandra “Man Repeller” Medine always wears this Zander necklace; it looks great layered. I don’t find it repelling, do you? I bought the oil painting at Brimfield. The frame is what really seals the deal.

These are some of my all time favorite DANNIJO pieces, the game changers. The silver mixed chain bracelet on the right goes with everything. Great cuffs can be worn with a T-shirt and jeans or an evening gown. Danielle and I started making jewelry as kids with our father’s medical tools. It's amazing to work with my sister. We have different styles (I tend to be a bit more classic and Danielle more bohemian) and our collection is a mixture of us, which makes DANNIJO our baby, right?

I saved up to buy this piece of furniture my first year in New York. These classic booties are a staple. I buy a lot of my classic pieces from Raplh Lauren: leather jackets, vests and plaid collar shirts. I bought this jacket on Shopbop and wear it with everything, from pleated solid and plaid skirts to jeans and plaid shirts. I am having a plaid moment and don’t think you can own too much. Rag & Bone is one of my favorite lines. You can wear their pieces everyday and their collections get better and better each season. David and Marcus have built an amazing brand. The best part is how they style the collection each season. Brilliant!

I was looking for a unique bag last year and called Francine at Designer Social in New Orleans. She gets her hands on some rare pieces and found this Aladdin dream for me. Thank you Francine. Aladdin travels everywhere with me! It's my magic carpet.

Stackable pinky rings! Pinky party! They are called the Derek Foreal rings because for some reason they remind us of Derek Foreal from the movie Blow (Pee Wee Herman). Ring a bell? This pin is from the Bill Cunningham movie. We took our entire office on a field trip and got these souvenirs. We love DANNIJO family outings.

I bought this gown on NET-A-PORTER and wore it a few weeks ago when we were nominated for breakout designer of the year at the WGSN awards. We were sitting at the Swarovski table so I felt it was appropriate to show up in some sparkle! I still managed to bling myself out in DANNIJO.

I have too much jewelry and not enough space, so I keep a lot of it out and decorate my apartment with it. It is great to have it out so I can always add some jewelry on my way out the door. I love stacking on the DANNIJO Zula trade bead necklaces. I took these pictures when I studied in Italy during college.

The Hudson collar is minimalism in a big way. We made the jewelry for Vena Cava FW11 and were inspired by the minimalism of the early '90s. After we made a sleek clean collar for them, we kept exploring other versions of the classic collar necklace and this is the result. We love Sophie and Lisa from Vena Cava. Those girls are cool as shit and have become great friends. It is always fun for creative minds to collaborate.

I love vintage furniture probably too much. I buy furniture like I buy accessories. It is always an emotional purchase and I worry about where it will go after the fact. I purchased this old filing cabinet on one of my favorite websites, One Kings Lane. I love color in my accessories. The Cleo necklace (left) is one of my favorite pieces. The Hixson neon collar is from our SS12 collection. It has a very surf culture feel to it and makes me miss summer (my favorite season). I love wearing it under a buttoned up collared shirt or over a vintage tee.

I have an extensive Sperry collection: red, turquoise and python. Jeffrey did a collaboration with Sperry and I can’t get enough! They are so comfortable. I keep them at the office and end up in them by the end of the day. I bought the skirt and the jacket from the same vintage store in New York. The jacket is part of a suit so I have a matching skirt but I don't wear them together. Can you tell yet that I am a vintage junkie?

I love Coming to America. What a great movie! These earrings do remind me of the women in the opening scene with all of their amazing jewels. I love the combination of colors and that you can wear them with pretty much anything. That is what is so great about jewelry—you really can dress it up or down. I found this bag in a vintage store in Paris. I almost love velvet as much as denim and it reminds me of a small bowling bag. These earrings have a Greta Garbo, Great Gatsby vibe. The Great Gatsby is my favorite book and always inspires me. I love the way they dressed. I want to attend their parties!

I wish I wore these boots more. I wore them to the Vena Cava runway show last season and could not feel my feet after an hour of wearing them. The oxidized brass cuffs are from our fall collection and the oxidized silver cuffs are some of our classics. I always wear one big cuff, or stack a few of the smaller ones for an arm party. The oxidized brass bow cuff is from our collaboration with Man Repeller. We had so much fun designing this collection and are working on a new one that will be released in February. Stay tuned!

Great shot! I collect vintage flags—can you tell I'm proud to be an American? I am going to get around to framing all of them one of these days. I love Isabel Marant blazers. The fit is great and I can’t get enough of her eclectic pieces. They have such a bohemian vibe and she keeps delivering great collections. We would love to do collaboration with her. I bought the rackets for a $1 each at a Hamptons garage sale. Score!
