Katherine Power

Creative Director and Co-Founder, WhoWhatWear. Los Angeles

Katherine Power is the both the co-founder and creative director of our digital obsession WhoWhatWear.com. The concept hits the nail on the head perfectly: it's your destination for immediate access to fashion as portrayed by the world's finest trendsetters. What handbag was Sienna Miller rocking at Maxfield on Thursday afternoon? Your answer is usually online at Power's site Friday morning. It eliminates gossip from the world of fashion, and focuses on the trends and clothes we have come to love. Before co-founding WhoWhatWear.com, Power was the West Coast Editor of both ELLE and ELLEgirl, responsible for scouting new fashion and lifestyle trends and visually translating her findings into the pages of the magazines.
Prior to ELLE, Power acted as the Director of Promotions at Brent Bolthouse Productions, L.A's most recognized special events companies. She was responsible for filling his venues with the power players of the Los Angeles market - ensuring his nightclubs were packed with both celebrities and tastemakers. But her true calling was rooted in the world of fashion. And as much as she is a diehard fashionista, she is just as passionate about the other love of her life: Nelson, her Russian Blue cat, who also happens to make one killer accessory.

This is another vintage necklace from The Way We Wore, I think it was the first or second birthday gift that Justin ever bought me.

I am a big fan of both brands and you can’t beat the prices of the shoes. If you can get them while they’re in stock, they’re quite a steal.

The hat is vintage from Wasteland. Our contributing fashion editor Laurie Trott pulled it for an editorial shoot and I ended up buying it (though I’ve yet to wear it). The sweater is something with no label that I picked up at one of my favorite consignment stores in Palm Springs. The bag is my new obsession. It’s called the Tilly. It also comes in this pale pink pony hair with rose gold hardware, which is gorgeous.

The pants on the left are very famous among my friends. They are reversible and everyone made fun of me. They're zebra on one side and tiny cheetah print on the other. Two summers ago I wouldn’t take them off, and I still love them. My friends brought me back the pants in the middle from a trip to London and I stole the ones on the right from the H&M showroom (but, they said I could).

These flat sandals reminded me of an old pair of Ralph Lauren sandals my mom had in the '80s. (I now have them and I still wear them every summer.) Jenni Kayne has such an amazing ability to reinvent classic elegant pieces.

I tend to be very conservative in my clothing choices so I thought it might be nice to add a classic piece in a more youthful, fun color.

I wore this skirt during fashion week. Maxi skirts are so comfortable, I’m glad they’re not just reserved for summer anymore.

The apartment that I lived in before this house was less than a block from the Christian Louboutin store. There was a point where I walked there once a week and that was trouble. That’s where I got those yellow kitten heels. Justin (my fiancé) bought me that bag at a resale store in Palm Springs a couple of years ago, it was quite a score.

When I worked at ELLEgirl, Laurie Trott (who I still work with) styled this jacket so perfectly in an editorial that I went out and bought it. It was a hit this fall with all of the shearling that was going on. Nicole Richie makes the most perfect airplane shoes, meaning they are comfortable and they are all easy to slip on and off. I wear these on the weekends and for traveling.

The whole Lanvin for H&M collection was gorgeous but I liked this dress the best, partly because I hadn’t seen many people wear it. The ruffles feel fun but the high neck made it feel more polished than some of the other dresses. The belt was a gift from (funny enough) Katie Nehra of Simone.

These Miu Miu platforms have got to be eight or 10 years old, but I wear them literally every summer. Certain summer vacation items never go out of style. I wear this dress in our new book. Sadly I don’t have a lot of time to shop, so I end up buying things straight off the shoots. The necklace is part of a two-piece set that Justin bought me at The Way We Wore for my birthday a few years ago.

I love this bag. We shot it for a Who What Wear Hearts story several months ago and I became obsessed. It’s a mini version of the W bag, which they decided not to produce, so I got to keep the sample. I get so many compliments on it, I seriously think they should re-consider releasing this tiny version.

Jenni Kayne is one of my favorite designers. Because I live in LA and never need warm coats, I had a bit of a panic four days before leaving for NY Fashion Week. Of course, by then all of the fall collections had sold out and spring was rolling in, so my only option was the sale rack at Zara. As it turns out, I didn’t even take it with me to NY but I still think its pretty great, especially for $79.99.

I borrowed this cocktail dress for New Year's Eve from a friend but ended up getting too sick to go out. I’m hoping something else will be coming up where I can wear it. The book is by me. Just kidding, it’s by Hillary Kerr mostly and she let me put my name on it.

This has been my uniform for the last two years. The combination completely sums up my style. My favorite leather jackets come from my friend’s line, Simone by Katie Nehra. Every season I order the same cut in a new color. The toughness of the jacket makes my favorite Equipment blouses feel less preppy. I have been wearing this combo lately with very dark wide leg J Brands and some high wedges.
