Lisa Walker

Partner, Starworks Artists.  Los Angeles

As one of the partners at Starworks Artists, an agency representing the cream of the crop in styling, hair and make-up, Lisa Walker knows good talent when she sees it. Born in New York, she took a leap of faith and moved to LA with her then-boyfriend (and now husband) where she got her start in the field of talent representation by honing her skills as an assistant at Smashbox Beauty, an agency inside the confines of L.A’s Smashbox Studios. Thrown into the mix, Walker was fortunate enough to work alongside some of the most influential power players in the realm of photography – providing her a taste of what would soon be her career. Married for 8 years to Justin Walker, it was he who gave Lisa the courage and drive to shake things up – venturing out on her own and setting up her own company…while being six months pregnant. We’ve already featured a slew of her clients in some of our favorite galleries (Merritt Elliott, Emily Current, Cher Coulter & Adir Abergel) but now it’s time we paid a little visit to the gatekeeper over at SWA. From her custom Goyard to her killer Wasteland-found Marc Jacobs jacket (sometimes dreams to come true), we get a real kick out of Ms. Walker’s independent and individualized style. It’s a vintage bag, courtesy of her mother, that provides sentimental value, and in fact, fuels her need to hold on to pretty much everything. While not a hoarder (her closet is impeccably edited and organized), she’s a deviant of her mother’s habits. “My Mom is not one to hold onto things. In fact I believe to this day her need to give things away fuels my need to hold onto to everything! This bag is one of few things that she kept and gave to me, I believe she wore it on a date with my Dad, they are married fifty years this May, so it holds a special place in my heart and closet”. But to put it lightly, it’s a mutual girl-crush that we both share that clearly embodies our immediate connection: Isabel Marant. And while Walker said it first, we undeniably agree: “Oh Ms. Marant, how I love you so very much”.

My favorite place to go in N.Y.C. is the basement of Jill Stuart in Soho. Her selection of vintage dresses are the best and always exactly what I have in mind when I think feminine. Every time I wear one I feel special.

The watch is a vintage piece that I still have not had time (no pun intended) to get fixed. The bracelet is just a classic trinket that will go to my daughter someday.

My friend and style icon, Kate Lee, had this bag—and therefore I had to as well. It is a day and evening bag in one, genius for travel.

This clutch is a go to, I try to mix it up with bags but I go back to this clutch over and over again. The size, the shape, everything about it is perfect. The boots were a big splurge, but they're a favorite and the metal detail keeps them from being boring!

This dress was a leap; the whole color thing is new for me, but I love it and I am proud of myself that it is not black nor grey.

This dress is not my usual—but this one called out to me. The necklace is from my mom, years ago she complimented a woman wearing it and the woman took it off and gave it to her, it’s from Greece. The clutch was a gift, I actually use it to hold my jewelry when I travel.

The ring is from a great collaboration that yielded such unique pieces for such great value! The candlestick is unknown, I was shopping with a girlfriend and we saw the pair in an artisan shop and split them. I think we made some pact about giving one to the other for some reason but I still only have the one.

These are the most versatile boots I have ever owned- I wear them with everything. Ms. Marant is the end all be all for me and everything she does is exactly what I want. It is laying on one of my son’s favorite books.

This bracelet is an unknown designer. I saw it in this tiny little store in Paris in the 3rd called Hod. I passed it by and then had to go back a few days later because I could not stop thinking about it. My friend and talented artist, Stacy Burka, made the sculpture for my (yes gasp!) 40th birthday.

The boots were forced on me. I am a short woman and I work in an environment with tall girls. These are the most comfortable high heel boots I have ever put on—I can run in these. The painting is my talented neighbor, Sal Viscuso.

Glad my half-finished bathroom could be the setting for this. Here is the story on this jacket: I saw it come down the runway, then I saw it hanging at Barney’s. I then talked myself out of spending so much money on it. One year later I happened upon it in a store in L.A. called "Wasteland" for about $88. I think it was over $1000 retail.

There is nothing to say about Lanvin that has not been said. I have about a dozen of these flats, I think my arch is dropping because of my addiction. The frame they are resting on is of two silver ID bracelets that belonged to two very special people in my life that have since passed; my co-workers had them framed for me—it was a special gesture I will never forget.

I am fortunate to work and play with Emily Current and Merritt Elliot—they are the most gifted stylists and designers. They made this amazing jacket with the studded collar. I would never have chosen it for myself and now I find myself wearing it all the time. The belt hanging off it was from the flea market in Paris that I tend to wear as a necklace. The skirt is Phillip Lim; can’t say enough about that man—he reads my mind when he designs.
