Fine Jewelry Designer. Toronto
Toronto-based and NYC-educated fine jewelry designer Marisa Klass got her start at the ripe age of nine years old, honing her skills every summer at Arts & Crafts. But her career happened almost as an accident. After a brief stint in the world of interior design didn’t nab her attention – she began creating beautiful ornate pieces that delicately adorned her neck and ears. But her profession took a high note once her elaborately colorful self-made creations started garnering the attention of everyone around her – she knew she was onto something. Her one-of-a-kind magnetic creations mix elements of bold costume jewelry, feminine charm and whimsical chandelier details – complementing any outfit. Scratch that – Klass’s gems ARE the outfit. “I work in 18k matte gold, small diamonds and semi precious stones and I LOVE color – it’s my thing. I think it adds personality. If someone isn’t that big into color, a small piece of jewelry can do so much for an ensemble. In fact, people tell me my pieces are often topics of conversation” she says. And as we expected, the most difficult part of her job is parting with her creations – especially those insanely glamorous diamond colored stacking rings. “I find it hard to part with my work”, she says “but I love seeing people enjoy wearing my pieces”. But at the end of the day, between her coveted Jo Malone Vitamin E lip gloss, staples from J.Crew and her much-loved leopard flats (and of course her family), she (and we) are obsessed with her eight year old Bernese Mountain Dog Charlie. We think he rocks those Chanel leather flip-flops quite handsomely!
