Maryam Keyhani

Jewelry Designer.  Toronto

We're on a Canadian roll, and we're showcasing Toronto talent like no other these days. Maryam Keyhani is the creative director of her namesake line, which features a range of bold, statement-making jewelry that has already garnered the attention (and shelf life) of global retailers like Luisa Via Roma, Corso Como and Franck Et Fils. When we ventured into her Toronto home (which was decorated to the max by Maryam herself), her Parisian chic aesthetic resonated throughout her home and drool-worthy closet. Her insane collection of Céline and Marni was only complimented by her vintage collection of fashion publications...talk about digging through the archives of iconic fashion editorials. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design, Keyhani has worked at Holt Renfrew as a visual stylist, for Art Basel Miami, where she managed gallery sales, FASHION Magazine, and ended up as the style assistant at another Canadian label Pink Tartan. We're still dreaming about her black Givenchy shopper and her collection of hats (we could definitely play a game of dress up right about now) and all of a sudden, our necks are feeling completely naked. A leather-feather hybrid neckpiece would do the trick. Keyhani, we're looking at YOU.

I designed my wedding dress and had this fantastic old Greek lady make it for me. She couldn't stand how difficult I was. It worked out at the end, though.

My wardrobe is not actually that organized, but I do keep outfits together, with the hat and all. I usually work an outfit around what accessories I'm wearing so I always have my hats out on display. The clothes come second. This room is supposed to be a baby room, which is perfect for all my hats.

The collar, of course, is a huge obsession of mine, so I designed this belt collar and wear it pretty much all the time. Since I did this piece so many people emailing me asking for the 'collar belt' which is cute, because I didn't think anyone else would be into it as much as me!

I got the gold dress in a flea market in N.Y. and I feel fearless when I have it on; this thing feels like an armor on. It's fantastic. The pink dress is from a vintage shop in Toronto. With her, it was love at first sight. I had to bring her home, and because it actually wasn't for sale, I pretty much had to beg!

I designed these hangers two weeks before market in Paris and had them done in four days. The necklaces are in a way a apart of the outfit so I wanted to create the silhouette and the shape for people to be able to visualize the pieces on. I had to keep some for myself!

I got this dress in Florence. I was wearing this one night at Café de Flore, and Karl Lagerfeld was there. He paid me a compliment on my outfit, which was surreal! So obviously since then this piece has become a favorite of mine.

This necklace is over a one-hundred-fifty-year-old Egyptian and weighs a TON; all silver. I wore it to a party and ended up having serious bruises all over my neck...but it was so worth it.

I'm a sucker for junk food so these are a gift from my husband. To make fun of me I guess. The barrister wig is also a gift, which is wonderful because clearly the person who bought it knows me well, otherwise who gives a wig as a gift? I just adore it!

I got the fur coat in Le Marché aux Puces. I have never bargained so aggressively for a piece in my life. I'm usually really good with deals at flea markets, this was a tough one. I love to wear so many bold neck pieces, and Céline pieces never clash with anything. I got the shoes in Milan and I’ve never worn them actually. It was one of those last minute impulse purchases...you know, the ones after a lunch and wine!
