Creative Director, Meredith Wendell. New York

Earlier this week, The Coveteur endured perhaps their most eye-catching amount of Technicolor energy thanks to our voyeuristic lens that captured the pulse of Jonathan Adler and Simon Doonan’s NYC abode. Today, we flip gears, and while we are still staying on the East Coast, Meredith German, Creative Director of in-your-face accessories line Meredith Wendell, has the ability to give A+D a run for their money (color-wise that is…). Founded in 2008, Meredith’s tenure in the fashion industry was just shy of a decade, starting by styling windows at Saks Fifth Avenue, then moving on to the design department at Marc by Marc Jacobs. In between shooting her Manhattan abode, like the lovely southern darling that she is, we bonded over tempeh at her vintage Pierre Cardin table, discussed the entity that is Margiela (look at those kick ass clogs), and growing up next to The Greenbrier Hotel (the color is a direct influence into her designs). Like us, German stops at nothing to get what she wants, and it’s evident with her global hunt for Prada pumps. “I obsessed over these shoes. I ordered them early in Italy, stalked headquarters in Milan and had them shipped to New York. Every time I wear them I end up dancing, which is unfortunate for my husband’s toes. They are heavy, I mean H-E-A-V-Y, but they are my favorite and he is fine with nine toes”. Been there, done that. But with every design change and influence – her family is at the pulse of her process, drawing on her experiences with her husband Ross to her grandmothers quilt collection. With Canada Day and the 4th of July kicking into high gear this weekend, we’re grabbing our Meredith Wendell totes and hitting the beach. See you on Tuesday kiddos!

We found these “his and hers” Danish modern wingback chairs in Brooklyn. Growing up in my grandmother’s house she always had wingback chairs and Ross grew up with Danish modern furniture. I thought this was the perfect mix. The other perfect mix is the Mullet Tote from our line. I would get in arguments with my then merchandiser who insisted on neutral colors: so it’s neutral in the front (business), and neon in the back (party).

I am a shoe designer in addition to accessories, so all shoes must be organized by heel height, material and by season…I may have tidied just a bit before the shoot.

These prints are so cool. They are another perfect compromise. Ross loves a Salvador Dalí and I love a botanical print. Who knew Salvador Dalí did botanical prints?

I have a tendency for YSL Boleros, this one is from Resurrection, shoes are Robert Clergerie and the necklace is Meredith Wendell. During the shoot Dalton added his favorite green frog toy to the mix, it really added to the shot, he is quite excited about his summer internship with The Coveteur.

My grandparents' wardrobe was incredibly colorful and I grew up near The Greenbrier Hotel, which is also so colorful. I had no other option but to go for full on color.

This is another wedge I obsessed over-it’s like a seasonal flu or something. It’s pretty predictable.

This is our original Leopard necklace, made with sheet glass from Kokomo Opalescent Glass in Kokomo, Indiana. It’s the oldest glass factory in the country. I was obsessed with making jewelry with glass, and they were so supportive when we were just starting. They have 22,000 different color combinations.

The color-block skirt is from eBay. I absolutely love clogs. The skirt is from Fall 2008, and looks great with a grey T-shirt and my neon pink pumps.

This jacket is from his Spring 2000. I loved it so much and finally scored it on super sale. I was wearing it to a show during Fashion Week on Sept. 10, 2001, and saw him. He said, “Nice jacket” and smiled. It was one of my favorite, favorite fashion moment.

My friend, Fred, got these clogs for me in two colors. I always love a clog and how chic to have anything in two colors, right? These are the kinds of things you learn from Fred.

All of the vases in this photo are from our wedding, made at a cool glass factory in West Virginia. I grew up close to The Greenbrier Hotel, where prints and color are the complete norm. As for the shoes...I was at work one day and someone was talking about them: "Who would ever buy those green pumps with the mane?" Yes, that would be me.

I purchased this amazing combo when I was trying to show our line to ikram in Chicago. Ross: “What happened?” Me: “It was great! I bought this rad Erdem thing I have been obsessed with…” Needless to say I have been fired from the sales force; it's too costly.

The chairs are covered with original fabric from the lobby of The Greenbrier. For our first photo shoot at The Greenbrier, we made uniforms for our model out of the same fabric so she would disappear into the walls and her accessories would pop.
