Nur Khan

Owner, Kenmare and Don Hills.  New York

Nightlife in New York City is synonymous with two words: Nur Khan. The man behind some of the most exclusive nightlife destinations in Manhattan has established the A-list standards for our city’s most elite social destinations. From Wax to Sway to Hiro at The Maritime Hotel, Khan’s latest gigs have the rest of the city just as excited as he is: he’s revamped Don Hills (which he now owns) and can often be seen kicking back at one of our favorite haunts – Kenmare, where he also acts as the establishments owner. His style is the definition of rock and roll couture, as most of his prized items are either custom made or involved his creative design in some capacity. Khan is known as the man at the forefront of his industry, and his groundbreaking concepts have set industry standards that continue to be imitated on a global scale. His nightlife creations are embedded with creative fusion, from the playlist selection, intended for the musically literate, to the jaw-dropping interiors that adorn his spaces. We went inside this rock and roll aficionados closet and witnessed the wardrobe behind one of NYC's hardest working entrepreneurs.

These shirts were made by Libertine. I love Libertine's clothing also. Some of it has designs by Damien Hirst. There’s one I love with a heart printed on the front wrapped in barbed wire, with a dagger plunging through the heart. Very Damien...

A Thank You letter framed from President Clinton. I threw a weekend long event for his birthday at the Gramercy Park Hotel and a party at Rose Bar after a very special show where the Rolling Stones played at the Apollo Theatre. Martin Scorsese filmed the show and made a documentary called Shine a Light. I highly recommend it. The festivities continued at Rose Bar after the show, where the President was also hosting his Global Initiative for the weekend.

I like boots more than shoes. Black Damien Hirst Butterfly painting is behind them on my wall.

These shoes are made of gray Stingray and I believe they only made a few pairs. They are very special to me. They are next to a Balinese Dragon sculpture. You'll see my loft has a very Balinese/Moroccan vibe to it. This vibe in my loft takes me out of the city, when I come home. I feel like I'm on vacation while at home.

This t-shirt was a collaboration with my friend, Nicholas Morley, who was the designer. We were actually taking Kung Fu together and one day Nick had decided to make a clothing line of T-shirts. We got to talking after the Kung Fu session and thought Buddhism/married to rock & roll, and thus the name Buddhist Punk was born. He then created the line. This was a shirt we made together with metallic silver tattoo guns painted on the front. We made these as part of the uniforms for the bartenders at my nightclub Hiro, in the Maritime Hotel.

This is a pink pinstripe suit on black fabric with pink interior lining. I picked the fabrics for it and my friend, designer Mark Powell, custom made it for me. He has a store on Savile Row. The painting behind it is a Damien Hirst called 'Pharmaceuticals,' from his 2005 exhibition.

These are a pair of wingtip boots that were made by a shoemaker in Manchester. He makes them for the Gallaghers (Oasis). They turned me on to him and sent me a pair. They’re sitting in front of a Damien Hirst Spin/Skull painting, that Damien and I created together at his studio.

These are a slightly different version of the other pair of Stingray shoes. Very comfortable. They were a gift from my friend, Lauren Flynn, who is now rocking it out at Burberry. They are set upon a sleeping Buddha sculpture on the shelf of my bed.

This is another Buddhist Punk shirt. Very rock n roll, with a cool image of a punk rock girl on the back. It’s hanging from my living room day bed.

This is a T-shirt with an image of Iggy Pop shot by my friend, rock & roll photographer, Mick Rock. I think it’s safe to say that John Varvatos comprises half my wardrobe. He's got a very rock & roll sensibility to his designs, which suit me well. I love his clothing. It’s hanging from a painting made by Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones. He's quite a good artist. This one is a painting of Bob Marley.

These boots are my favorite. I wear them practically every day. I'm telling you...a lot of Varvatos in my wardrobe! They are in between two butterfly spin paintings that I collaborated on with Damien Hirst in his studio.

I like this blazer because it kind of reminded me of the Nashville Music scene/vibe. It’s got kind of a Southern rock sensibility to it. It’s hanging from a 19th Century hand-carved Chinese teak wedding bed in my living room.

This jacket is another custom-made snakeskin blazer, and its name is Slither. Told ya we had names for a few of the snakeskins! It is leaning against an Indian carved teak door/wall sculpture in my bedroom. Again, more foreign/exotic influences in my loft. I brought most of these pieces home in containers, or shipped them home from my travels around the world.

John's scarves are very late 60s U.K. rock & roll style. I love them as an accessory. I don’t usually take them off, even when I’m inside. It’s hanging off the bed I sleep in. It’s a Chinese carved teak marriage bed, circa late 19th Century. There are intricate relief carvings of dragons, birds, and other mythological beasts. It’s really quite beautiful. I love waking up in this bed every day. Again, I almost forget I’m in N.Y.C. Feels like I'm in some far away land!

This is my favorite jacket. I literally live in it. It is all black python skin, with a purple lining. It’s sitting on top of a photo from my friend artist/photographer, Sante D'Orazio. The Guitar next to it is a custom Ovation acoustic. A gift from Axl Rose after a small intimate concert we did together in the Rose Bar, as part of a concert series I created with the support of Deleon Tequila. Man, that show blew the roof off the Gramercy park Hotel that night. What a corker to have Guns N' Roses play an electric set, practically in your living room. What a blast!
