You don’t win a CFDA for nothing… or get nominated three times in row!
“It was an amazing honor to win. The CFDA and the Vogue Fashion Fund have been integral to the growth of my business,” the recently-minted winner, Pamela Love told us.
The morning after any major event be it the Oscars, MET Gala or, hey, even a bar/bat mitzvah, you’re bound to need a few, uh, extra minutes to recover. But when we arrived at Love’s Brooklyn brownstone early the following morning of the awards, we were shocked to find her looking fresh-faced as ever. Of course, there were a few traces of night’s debauchery; no smudged-forgot-to-take-off-my-makeup mascara or anything, just her #ootd, custom cream, beaded gown by best friend, Mara Hoffman.
Upon entering the Swarovski Award for Accessories winner’s home, you quickly realize that this is, in fact, her own personal sanctuary. Every corner has Love’s signature gothic-meets-grungy-meets-western touch that permeates throughout her collections. Think: Wax-dripping candles, vintage records and luggage, antique framed photos, rustic armoires and skulls, which highlight the Mexican holiday, Day of The Dead.
“I lost my father in my early twenties. It was a very hard time for me,” Love revealed. “There was something so uplifting about the idea of celebrating the dead and celebrating with them as if they were there, rather than mourning them. This really drew me to Mexican culture, especially Dia de los Muertos.”
We chatted about her career highlights (Love said it was when her childhood idol Jennifer Herrema wore her stuff) and some lofty goals – she’s hoping to give Neil Young some jewelry Lovin’. (See what we did there?) We watched as she switched from silky slips to itsy, bitsy, barely-there denim cut-offs… so effortlessly and all nonchalant. It’s that kind of style that is just so natural and embedded into your DNA, you know? That kind of style that shamelessly makes us use that dreaded “girl crush” word. Oh, the things you do for Love.
