Meet our favorite member of our “extended family”: Auntie Roops. Although we didn’t create the name ourselves, – in fact, we stole it from Vogue’s Meredith Melling Burke’s 6-year-old daughter, Eloise – Auntie Roops really has been a “frentor” for us since day one. She’s kind of like our fashion fairy godmother – a nurturing, wise woman who really believes in what we do and continues to hold an “executive position” on our unofficial advisement board. And you’ve got to respect a woman who has spent years as an executive at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf’s and recently made the M.O.ve to join our friends Lauren Santo Domingo and Taylor Tomasi Hill at Moda Operandi as the Fashion Director. When we invaded Patel’s home it was as if we had found our happy place; an enigmatic space bursting with bright colour and whimsical butterflies. Patel is a true visionary – she can envision the next big thing and is always rooting for the up-and-comers. Before Cov-legend Eddie Borgo made it big, Patel pushed his line hardcore… and now look at it. The vibrant spirit of her home and closet is a direct reflection of her own personality – vivid-colored heels from YSL and Louboutin, psychedelic surfboards and tie-dyed Proenza shirt and pillows. Every piece of Patel’s has a revealing story; a ring from the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, an elephant from her parent’s home and a collection of taxidermy butterflies from Paris. She’s well-versed, well-traveled and well-mannered, welcoming us into her home like a true veteran hostess. She spent the day sharing stories with us about her career and as we were heading out the door for post-shoot drinks, Auntie Roops got called into work. We'll have to make up for that next time.
