Sam Shipley & Allison Sires

Co-Founder, Shipley & Halmos; Co-founder, Thomas Sires.  New York

Raise your hand if you love Trovata! The East Coast prep meets West Coast surf clothing line founded in 2002 by college buddies Sam Shipley, Jeff Halmos (yes, of Shipley & Halmos) holds a special bond for this couple. Beyond the brand’s signature buttons and stripes, Tribeca-based couple, Sam Shipley and Allison Sires, have shared their labor and love developing the label. Fast forward a few years and the design duo is making their mark in other major ways, too: Shipley heads up the CFDA award-winning brand alongside Halmos (duh!), and Sires has set up shop in NoLita with the launch of her boutique, Thomas Sires.
Their home takes shape much in the way his brand and her boutique does- both Shipley and Sires have a thing for the cute and quirky. Thomas Sires' carefully-curated shop and S&H’s “Things!” certainly has transferred it’s way inside their humble abode in the form of art materials, typewriters, vintage guitar amps meets shoes, striped sweaters and those fresh S&H shades that we haven’t stopped thinking about.
From the Bears cap on his head to their matching Minnetonka Moccasins on their toes, this couple defines N.Y.C. cool in a not-so-conventional way…and we love it!

Shipley & Halmos is based in classics. Bar stripes are right up our alley. Modern but vintage, clean but bold, statement but comfortable. What's not to like about the nautical stripe? – Sam Shipley.

I bought these in this CRAZY weekend market in Bangkok. They sell everything from puppies to plants to clothes to 'elixirs.' I can easily say it was the hottest day of the year and my life.

The things taped to the window next to the skirt are fabric print ideas I was playing around with. I liked the way they looked so I put them up - à la refrigerator art.

We love our 1/4 lined cotton suits. I wore this one last month to my sister's wedding. Got a bit too excited at the reception and did a huge knee slide. I split the pants from front to back. Lord. That move relegated me to play DJ for the rest of the night.

My friend Ryan made this as a mock up for an advertisement his firm was working on. They passed on the idea, but I didn't. It just couldn't get cooler than this image.

This is one of those pieces that just tells the whole story about the person who originally owned it. In the photo with our varsity jacket, you can see a picture of me playing guitar in my last band 'Ram it Home' (awesome 70's metal) wearing this bad boy in 2005.

This was the very beginning of our varsity jacket obsession. The style is popular now but years ago you couldn't give one away. I sometimes feel like we had to pound it into the stores.

I got that typewriter at a flea market. When I visited the San Francisco MoMA they had a design exhibit and THAT exact suitcase typewriter was a piece on display. Who knew? The glasses channel my inner 80's Lennon.
