Holographic, single-sole pumps? Check. Mesh booties, lined in neon orange and sky blue leopard spots with a frilled trim? Check. Purple printed wedges with a glittery ankle strap and polka dot panelling? Triple check. To say that we're infatuated with Sophia Webster's confection-like creations would be a bit of an understatement—and everyone from Solange to Dree Hemingway to Rihanna are apparently in agreement. That said, you can likely imagine our excitement when we had the chance to give Webster the TC treatment during a recent stop in Toronto.
We waltzed our way into her suite at The Trump and were greeted by stacks on stacks of shoe boxes housing Webster's wares—seriously, there were more than a few pairs that we contemplated waltzing out with (JK!). Leading us over to her temporary closet, she toured us through what she'd stashed in her suitcase for her stay. Pulling out a few pieces, Webster filled us in on her upcoming wedding (and the furry purple Furby-like notebook she's been using to plan it), her dream design collaborators and working with her mentor Nicholas Kirkwood.
Sifting through the designer's suitcase, it became immediately clear to us that the very reason why Webster's designs are so shopping-cart-trigger-finger worthy is because the girl she's designing with in mind is well, her—as her pieces couldn't be more in line with her own personal style. Case in point? The brightly-hued Tom Binns' necklaces, cheeky all-over-print pieces by MSGM and Au Jour Le Jour, oversized circular eyeglasses and paint-splattered white overalls from American Apparel she'd packed. After all, what else does one wear with polka dot flamingo-printed pumps? Our thoughts exactly. Oh, and as for that House of Holland dress (and matching tee)? We've got just one word: Bitchin'.
