Clutch, Oroton
Writer. New York
When we were approached by Australian luxury label, Oroton, to profile some of our favorite tastemakers for their current campaign, the one girl that immediately popped into our minds was Stephanie LaCava. Her snow-white skin, signature red locks and tomboyish, yet flirty style made LaCava the perfect subject to Coveteur… again. We had been to LaCava’s pad before and we quickly realized that Oroton’s quirky accessories felt right at home in LaCava’s open concept space filled with fanciful objets d'arts like mushrooms and beetles (you know she has a thing for the weird and the whimsical, right?). The Prisma laptop bag perfectly suited LaCava’s work station where she spends her days writing poetic pieces for The Paris Review, Vogue, T: The New York Times Style Magazine and even her recent book, An Extraordinary Theory of Objects. Her penchant for peculiar objects is documented throughout her memoir of growing up as an outsider in Paris and developing a strange attachment and affliction for objects. Before we arrived – much like the first time we shot her – LaCava scattered an array of sentimental possessions across her dining room table: everything from vintage brooches and books to a stuffed animal turtle and praying mantis. It was an old-world meets modern-day fairytale with some of her most prized belongings matching the mood of many of the collection’s clutches and gold crystal handbags. This wasn’t LaCava’s first time at the (Coveteur) rodeo: not only had she bought us breakfast from Balthazar – you’re too good to us – and coffee from Starbucks, LaCava had also thoughtfully planned her editorial looks, mixing everything from Marni to Marc. Not to mention, going all out in a sequin blue Wang from the archives and a gold embroidered Dolce&Gabbana onesie. But don’t be fooled by her modern housewife routine, girl knows how to kick it old school and proved it by busting out her red Nike dunks –her husband has a matching pair! With each outfit change she transformed like a chameleon, just like those creepy crawly creatures she’s awfully fond of. Predicting a round three in the near future. Until next time, LaCava?
