The Coveteur Does Art Basel

Colette, Damien Hirst, Balmain shopping sprees & other stuff we did & saw in M-I-A.

Between hanging out poolside with some Murakami monsters and a little bit of a Binns and Balmain shopping spree, we swear we did some actual art sighting while at Art Basel; after all, those were Laure Heriard Dubreuil's orders.

Our first stop on the Basel circuit was an MCM/Harper's BAZAAR party at the ShopBAZAAR pop-up shop; we know, more shopping, but there were custom MCM clutches, you guys. A few cocktails later, we headed over to local concept store Alchemist, who joined up with one of our Parisian favorites, Collette, to create a art "drive-thru" - think: Grease meets Jeff Koons, retro rollerblading waitresses et al. While we could have gone for a few more old school milk shakes, the drive-thru "menu" boasted a series of exclusive art pieces from everyone from Ai Weiwei and Pharrell Williams, to Damien Hirst and Karl Lagerfeld. Not too shabby, right?

In the mood for a little afternoon gaming (okay let's be real, Jake wanted to hit the arcade), we took a trip to the FAILE art exhibit, where the Brooklyn-based street artists had transformed a classic games room into a psychedelically collaged art-arcade. A few heated tricked-out-pinball games later, we were off to Wynwood, Miami's artsy hub, for the Miami Project contemporary art fair. The white on white room featured over 60 galleries, accented by bright pop art, politicized neon signs and a whole lot of Obama. Just wait, you'll see. Hashtag Obama is the new black.

And because no Art Basel would be the same without a good ol' party at The Webster, we headed over to their mash up with Eddie Borgo, running into few of our favorite Cov-alum faces along the way. We were all, "Oh, hey Stephanie Lacava, Logan Horne and Leigh Lezark!" Between flutes of champagne, we browsed the jewelry set-up, falling just a bit in love with a few of the pieces; ahem pave collars and cuffs, ahem ‘tis the season for surprise gifts!

A few more art fairs and an Oliver People’s brunch at The Webster later – nothing goes better with a Bloody Mary than some custom sunglasses, right? – we sadly packed up our bags, a little more artfully inspired and a few-two-many-drinks-in than when we arrived. Let’s just say, we’re definitely not 20 anymore. ‘Til next year, kids!
