THE BEAUTY: Splish Splash
Grab your rubber ducky! Bathtime just got a whole lot better.
While we've already touted the virtues of showing yourself a little love (ahem: this!) and with Fashion Week coming to an end, we're in need of some serious TLC. We won't go into details, but let’s just say we are feeling it. Assuming you haven't already jet off across the pond for another seven days of shows, may we suggest taking some time out this weekend (just an hour… or four) to soak in a hot tub filled with plenty of potions? Sidenote: we don't know what it is with bath products and pretty packaging, but they totally reel us in. Bath oils, soaks and salts (insert bath salts joke here) can pretty up even the most um, unfortunate looking bathrooms (trust us, we've been there).
We've been having a longtime fling with Fresh's Rice Sake Bath soak, which is loaded with detoxifying ingredients and purifying enzymes that completely rid your body of any unseemly toxins. Try it while popping a few of their lemon or lychee Sugar Bath Cubes into a steaming tub—the scent envelops your entire bathroom transforming even the dingiest of apartment tubs into a spa experience. During the colder months, we've also been making our way through our jar of Laura Mercier's Ambre Vanillé Honey Bath. Post-bath, it’s difficult to avoid sniffing ourselves obsessively – the scent is just that good (think: bakery). And while we're not sure how we're meant to use the wooden honey dipper-thing, that doesn't mean it's stopped us from trying. Similarly, during dreary weather, we also love Clarins Relax Bath & Shower Concentrate, which is made with basil, chamomile and St. John's Wort, and does exactly what it says. Seriously. One whiff of this and we instantaneously feel ourselves relaaaaaax. Finally, for when we want to feel as if we're off at some holistic German retreat, we love Dr. Hauschka's aromatherapy bath (especially in Lavender and Rosemary), which is loaded with all-natural essential oils.
When it comes to considering bath time, we're also hugely devoted to this little brand called Lush. You may have heard of it. While it's kind of difficult to go wrong when choosing one of their bath bombs or bubble bars, we're personally partial to Phoenix Rising, Tisty Tosty and Sunny Side (because who doesn't want to lounge in gold dust?)
For us, bath oils are on a whole other level of indulgence – kind of the same way candles are. While you can always resort to a slipping few drops of baby oil in your bathwater, there's just something about pouring in a capful of super luxe scented oil out of a fancy glass decanter that takes the whole experience up a few notches. REN's Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil has quickly become a downtime favorite of ours—we mean, do you want to step out of your bath baby-soft and smelling like roses? Thought so. Jo Malone, the British brand best known for their to-die range of personal fragrances, as loved by Cov-alums like Rachel Roy, absolutely nail it on the bath oil front. While we're loyal to the Grapefruit, Ambre & Lavender, and Lime Basil & Mandarin scents, there's a whole selection available from that coordinate with their beloved personal fragrances.
And because we're always about piling it all on, a bath is nothing sans accoutrements. Our suggestions? A glass of wine or bubbly (or you know, the entire bottle) and a selection of only the trashiest tabloids. We don't know about you, but for us, it just doesn't get much better from there.
