Timo Weiland

Creative Director, Timo Weiland.  New York

Born in rural Nebraska and raised between New York City and Jacksonville, Florida, Timo Weiland is hands down, one of our favorite gents. Before his career in fashion took off, he majored in economics, Spanish literature and business management and minored in vocal performance at Vanderbilt University before heading back to New York and picking up the sewing machine to launch his line.
We ventured inside his West Village walkup, the epitome of a unique downtown space. His home is like a magical museum with his mother-made needlepoint and surfboards for his Montauk weekend escapes on display. Oh, and our favorite item from his N.Y.C digs? An antique telephone booth from across the pond. But that thing’s not for phone calls—he uses it to house his favorite shoes from Gucci and Lanvin to Vivienne Westwood and Stubbs & Wootton (almost all of which he wears sans socks!) We think we like that better anyways…

These shoes are my absolute fave-I wore them to my sister's rehearsal dinner with a Timo Weiland linen suit and to a DJ gig at the Brooklyn Art Museum with black slim jeans and a light chambray blazer. The MYSTIC surfboard I have had since I was fifteen before a summer surf camp in Costa Rica. It is one of my five boards (sticks) - I try to go surfing at least one morning per week during industry downtime!

Shoes, Vivienne Westwood

This manly card was a happy surprise from an old friend that loved my full beard (a rare soul, indeed). The watch was handed down to me, from the early-mid 1900's.

Grandpa Budke (aka Prince Perfect) is the sharpest, most dapper man I have ever known. He knew LP from his Floridian life way back when, many decades before he gifted me this abstract printed floral blazer that I will cherish always (and wear sometimes).

These cowhide trousers were a random East Village splurge with Alan and Donna. I promptly wore them out of the shop and all weekend long (even to sleep).

I bought these in Paris many years ago. I wore them to an after party for the Crillon Ball that year at Le Cab. The picnic supper basket was a gift from my best pal Lauren- it is a treasure that I cannot wait to fully utilize (stock a feast in...)

The Indian Guide badge was a gift from my darling pal, Georgiana. The belt buckle was a vintage find from my time living in Nashville, TN. The plaid button is a great find from the Market in NoLita. The luggage tag came off of my favorite roller luggage from Italy when the handle broke (it is being fixed now). Last but not least, the briefcase was my father's first when he founded his first venture, a wireless company in the MidWest. He has always encouraged my entrepreneurial spirit.

The mini-house was a collaboration with my father where we made mini-rooms to display in random spots in several rooms of our house in Florida during the holidays (the mini-Christmas tree and decorations come out each Thanksgiving!) The book was a gift from my boyfriend, Jeff Kim, by Rudyard Kipling, is about a boy who is the embodiment of colonial India.

This is indeed a Timo Weiland Men's retrospective! Wow, all of the textures and colors... and the collarless blazers (definitely more editorial than commercial items). The floral jacquard and the red are a highlight. The blazer is a key silhouette for us because it fits well, plus it is made casual and wearable with our fabrications. As a designer, I am passionate about the product and I wake up everyday excited to create something new and different.

This coat is the only bling-embroidered piece that I have ever worn and loved. The tails are a conversation-starter... always a fun evening to be had when wearing this piece!
