Tracey Cunningham

Celebrity Colorist.  Los Angeles

After last nights Academy Awards ceremony, there certainly were some knockouts when it came to the dresses that graced the red carpet (Emma, Gwyneth, Rooney and Michelle were standouts), but what we were really feeling were the hair styles – up do’s, side sweep bangs, voluminous extensions, and a few beautiful ladies who showcased their ombre hair. To honor Hollywood’s biggest night in talent (and hair), we take you inside the closet and home of Tracey Cunningham, owner of LA salon Byron & Tracey - one of the most highly sought after colorists working today – and someone who is responsible for some of the luscious locks we witnessed last night. She moved to LA from Seattle at a young age to pursue her passion of all things beauty related. From there, word got out about Cunningham’s luminous color applications, remarkable blow out skills and sharp eye for detail, which lauded her the official title of “The Best Blow-Out Artist of 1999” by Allure. She gravitates towards a bohemian-Moroccan-Turkish-Indian vibe, has a great selection of crosses, and she’s built up quite the large collection of clogs from different eras. She’s been gifted clothes from designers themselves (including one of her favorite pieces from Charlotte Ronson), has some versatile accessories from J.Crew and was such a gracious host when she cooked our Coveteur trio a delightful breakfast upon landing inside her LA home. The go-to source for all your ombre needs (she was the first to provide Lily Aldridge with her two-tone locks), helped make Kate Bosworth’s platinum blond hair a regular talking point, and gave Emma Stone her now signature red tone. Plus, she recently had Alessandra Ambrosio in her chair for the very first time to embark on the royal Cunningham experience. Tracey has become one of Hollywood’s coveted hair stylists, working on the tresses of Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Lopez, and Jessica Biel – spending her days working out of the Byron & Tracey Salon in Beverly Hills. While she was able to take a break from taking care of her devoted clientele, Tracey let us dig through her items to find out what culminates in her eclectic style.

I bought this top in London at Topshop. I saw the Miu Miu flats and had to have them. Pretty much anything that sparkles is fine by me.

This is my favorite belt. When I don’t feel skinny it is my go to. I don’t feel that way for long. The Lace pumps are from some cheap brand called Newport News and I bought them for $29.99 and I bought them because they looked like the Manolo Blahniks.

Who doesn’t love a Johnathan Adler Boob Lamp? At first people think it is a cactus. I get a kick out of their surprise when they realize what it is. The necklace is from my friend’s line Melinda Maria. Beautiful, right?

This Jacket is Charlotte Ronson. I saw her wearing it and complimented her and the next week she sent it to me. As for the purse, this was a gift from the Princess of Saudi Arabia. I’m lucky to be in a profession where people give great gifts.

I’m obsessed with crosses. They are all over my house. What else can I say? If it’s a cross I have to have it. The dress is vintage and was given to me by a client who thought it would look good with my hair color. The necklace I found in Little India. I LOVE shopping in Little India.

I tend to gravitate towards a bohemian-Moroccan-Turkish-Indian vibe. This jewelry illustrates that perfectly. Especially placed on top of this purse from Turkey.

The shoes are amazing and made by Burberry. They’re basically an over embellished Parisian apartment in shoe form. The bag was a gift from a publicist friend of mine. Years later I was wearing it and she complimented it. She didn’t even remember giving it to me!
