Tracy Taylor

US Editor, NET-A-PORTER.COM. New York

Tracy Taylor, the U.S. Editor for NET-A-PORTER, is an industry veteran when it comes to fashion. It's Taylor's role at the company to provide the American voice and perspective to the online endeavor—a big role that Taylor has triumphed. From the ladies to the gents, in 1996 she moved to New York to become the Fashion Editor of Details Magazine, lending her keen progressive eye to the world of men's fashion.
From there, Taylor became the Fashion Director of Marie Claire, where during her tenure at the magazine she was responsible for the book's fashion coverage, including the role of Creative Director, where she oversaw all of the publications fashion editorials. Now at NET-A-PORTER, as the brand’s U.S. ambassador, Taylor is responsible for sustaining their global voice, while simultaneously styling fashion shoots and writing editorial content for the worldly-loved publication. With her closet of coveted gems, Tracy embodies the synergy between art and commerce, making her a natural choice for The Coveteur!

My friend Derek Sanders, who is an architect and owner of La Esquina, designed these amazing closets for me. All the specs were laid out for a fashionista which helps to keep everything organized. It's key to keep all the folded items folded with placket or front of shirt showing in some way and sorted by color. That goes for hanging items too. It looks neater and is much easier to find things when organized by color and silhouette.

Here are a couple more skirts of which I have a sizeable collection.

No shoe is too big a statement for me. There are the very first Prada shoes I ever bought. I love [the lip print sandals] but have probably only worn them once or twice because I like really high heels and they feel low to me strangely. The sandals with the pailletes are from a sample sale. The photographs behind them all were a gift from my incredibly talented friend and photographer, Matt Albiani.

Fashion-wise I'm fond of anything 70s inspired which she does so well. The music is always great and the girls look so happy, fresh and pretty.

I found this fur and down cropped jacket on sale at the store in Soho probably around 2006. I loved it the minute I saw it, but even though I buy some pretty out there pieces, I thought I was a bit more frivolous launching into this one. At that point, I'd never seen anything like it. I always tell people if you really love it, get it. So that's what I did.

Jacket, Marni

This skirt from the Fall 2003 collection is one of my favorite pieces I have in my wardrobe. It has all of the elements I love: color, print and an interesting shape. The sandals from the Spring 2003 [collection]. I've worn these a ton and never tire of them. They were briefly sidelined a couple of years back when one of the stones fell out. Thank goodness I finally remembered to look in a zip lock where I put all of those buttons that come off new garments. Never throw them out!

The Feder Stratocaster was a gift from photographer Raphael Mazucco. I haven't worn this dress since that season, but maybe it's time to go out and play with these new suede boots I ordered. I'm feeling a lace-up boot again. That said, these Proenza boots are pretty much my go-to. The fur is vintage.

I remember sitting next to Sarah Easley from Kirna Zabete in Paris, and she was wearing a Duru Oluwu piece and gave me his phone number. I think at that point he was only selling from a shop on the Portobello Road. My first one was numbered. I rarely wear [these shoes], but again, they’re just fun to keep around.

I got this dress years ago just because I thought it was kind of fabulous. For some reason I had it in my head that I would wear it if I was feeling like “Ice Storm” and hosting a dinner party. P.S. I’ve never worn this and the tag is still on.

This is another piece that has plenty of miles on the odometer. In this particular season (Spring 2003), this motif was a strong element. I chose to buy accessories instead of buying clothing with this embellishment so I could take any basic look from nothing to something. The necklace is draped on a throw that Milly de Cabrol got me from an antique market in Tangiers.

I find that shoes are a great way to dip into a trend but not fall prey to an over-the-top derivative situation. The beyond fabulous and chic interior decorator, Milly De Cabrol, is a friend who sprinkled her fairy dust on my apartment when I moved in. She found this Union Jack pillow at a place called Hollywood at Home in LA.

I’ve long been a fan of the chunky necklace. I’m not afraid of statement jewelry and Lanvin does some of the best. This piece is an outfit in and of itself! I kind of feel like Cleopatra wearing it.

This belt was another find of Natalie Massenet's from the same visit to that vintage store in Paris. I kept trying to convince her to get it but she wouldn't budge because she thought it was perfect for me. She LOVES making other people look good.
