Okay, so we’re not exactly the, uh, “athletic type” unless, of course, you count regular Pilates post-ups a few times a week. And while we’re hardly Polo experts, we’re not one to pass up an event to dress up like we’re in The Great Gatsby, drink endless glasses of champagne and watch sweaty, studly men ride on the horseback. So when we got a VIP invite from our friends at Veuve Clicquot to come and horse around (yeah, we know), we didn’t think twice before saying yes. We threw on our biggest, most ridiculous hats, prettiest sundresses, oversized shades and slathered on some SPF (the sun had it out for us, we swear) and set off on a ferry to Liberty State Park. The theme for the event? To Russia, With Love; a Russian Summer Garden Party. It was all very reminiscent of our Fashion’s Night Out affair with Ferragamo featuring Miroslava Duma, Anya Ziourova and Elena Perminova: life-size matryoshka dolls, models, and waiters dressed like Russian royalty, complete with St. Petersburg-inspired architectural details.
The event was very much a Coveteur reunion: DANNIJO’s Danielle and Jodie Snyder, Yale Breslin, Kelly Framel, Kate Davidson Hudson, Theophilus London, Mia Moretti, Curtis Kulig, Rebecca Minkoff, Justin Mikita, Harley Viera Newton, Gaby Basora, Jared Seligman, Lubov Azria (coming soon to a Coveteur near you!) and more. And though it felt a little like a version of P. Diddy’s “White Party,” everyone went all out. There were plenty of crisp white trousers, loafers san socks and classic polos for the guys; the girls went the route of espadrilles and wedges (we all know grass and stilettos don’t mix), long, flowy dresses, and plenty of unexpected fresh pops of color (see: Mia Moretti and HVN). There were even a few familiar faces who may or may not (our lips are sealed, sorry!) be gracing The Coveteur soon. As proper party people (after a bunch, you quickly learn the ropes!), we made our rounds from table to table chatting with everyone from Jess Stam to Ashley Olsen to Dree Hemingway. We even got a little face time with the man (and woman) of the hour: Mr. Matthew McConaughey, a.k.a. Mr. How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days or Mr. I’m-In-Every-RomCom-Movie-Ever-That-You-Rewatch-Alone-On-A-Friday-Night-With-Solo-Takeout, and his lovely wife, Camilla Alves. Oh, how far he’s come since Dazed and Confused!
If we had a penny for every time a bottle of champagne was popped that day…well, we’d probably have enough money to buy a whole lot more Veuve! We toasted, we cheersed, we got sunburned (note to self: pack, apply and re-apply Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 100+ next year!) and had a gay ol’ time. Until next year!
